Joint Problems

Has anyone over 50 noticed sore joints while training, because my elbows and knees are giving me some grief. I cant curl what I'd like to for biceps, and legs occasionally nearly give out from under me while walking.

Phil Kuklinski wrote this the other day. "The one thing I have noticed as I have had passed the 50 year old mark, is it takes a lot longer to warm up the joints in the gym ... "

I had thought it was weak forearm muscles, but after reading Phil's post I realise its probably just years of wear and tear on my joints.

Any more suggestions people, apart from taking longer to warm up.

Hi

I would recommend Glucosamine and Chondroitin http://www.healthchemist.co.nz/blackmor ... 39999.html

some bodybuilders swear by it while some don't believe in it.I would give it a shot none the less.

also make sure your calcium intake is upto scratch.

Milk has the best bio availabity for calcium even more than the tablets so make sure you get most of your calcium intake from milk.

fish oil has also been known for good joint mobility.best of luck and dont expect immediate results,warming up efficiently at your age is of the utmost importance.

I also have faith in compression garments and always wear leggings during my leg workouts keeps my knees warm throughout the workout and helps me push a little more safely.

Oooooh yes :( it's the price of all that experience we've got, eh!

A) Warm-up the joints, I use Hot Stuff to help get the circulation going in the area;

B) On bad days, anti-inflammatories afterwards. Nurofen gel on the site, or Ibuprofen.

Curiously, when I sprained an ankle on a trip to the US, they recommended an analgesic with Naproxen Sodium as the active ingredient - like Naprogesic. Funny thing is, in NZ this seems to be prescribed only for period pain ? Anyhow, it worked for me better than Nurofen.

C) Glucosamine and chondroitin supplements;

D) decent pre- and post-workout warm-up and down, stretching; and

E) this one I'm not so sure of, it didn't do much for me, but...neoprene sleeves for the joints too.
