Good work all involved.

Well done Darren on the Pro Card, also Daniel on winning the Overall for the 2nd time. Pro Card coming for Daniel as well?

Will have to go check out the pics - anyone got any to post?

Nate

Yeah I am sure Daniel with his awsome shape and symetry will look great on a pro stage next to the likes of Dennis James. Go for it Dan!

Daniel would be in the "under 202s". Under by quite a bit.

I had an interesting thought after the weekend specifically about the bikini/figure classes (no not like that) and the evolution of female physique competition.

Initially I was very hesitant about the bikini class, but I think I've been won over by the ladies on saturday night about it's place. It was probably hurt by the class name "Bikini" really.

About 25-30 years ago the Physique girls at the highest level were the equivelent of the Bikini girls of today (McLish etc), with slightly sharper condition.

Then as the ladies got bigger and more muscular it left a space in the competition market for those wanting to maintain a lighter less muscled frame, ie Figure - and watching the Figure Olympia girls just gone, without the level of conditioning, a lot of them, muscularity wise are on par with the Physique girls of the early 90's (the top end Lenda and Bev being the exception). Watching the Figure O, these girls clearly have done some squatting and deadlifting in their time, and are getting the fuller muscularity that has again left another gap in the competitive market.

Nura Novia (forgive my spelling) is a fit with the current Pro figure market in that she has full quads and glutes, a tiny waist and sick delts that don't come by doing Zumba, clearly there has been some effort in that.

And equally, she doesn't come in with that shredded hard look, maintaining a balanced condition although i think a bit tighter in the legs will be necessary for future competition.

Hence the Bikini girls, the winner on Saturday, whilst not at the same muscularity level of Nura, clearly is a girl that trains in a gym. A lot of the initial concerns were that non trained "Bar & Car Show" Bikini competitors were going to enter an arena of athletes, fortunately it would seem Bikini might just be the new figure of old.

To me it looks like a natural progression, and I wouldn't be surprised if in another 10-15 years we have another class coming through to offset what may end up being a bikini class that has outgrown its initial ideal.

Okay looks like Moe has pulled some strings and arranged a Pro card for Sanjeev. Yay! Awesome stuff Moe! Our Pro lineup is looking very impressive now. Looking forward to a NZ elite Pro show with Mike K, Justin, Grant, Darryn, Sanjeev and Moe posing down.
