Acne treatment

Recommended Posts

So I'm going to the doc to look at getting some Acne treatment. What are some of the prescription products people are taking? And how have you found them? I'm not taking any gear yet, so my acne isn't due to that. I just feel like, I'm almost been 25, an it's time to deal with it. I'm also going to get full bloods done including hormone panel. It'll be cool to see where my natural test is at, ect.. Will be looking into doing my first cycle next year.

Likely they will try an antibiotic first, if that doesn't work they may go for Accutane.

Luckily I have good skin and haven't had to endure Accutane (flatmate did, it wasn't that flash!). I guess low natural testosterone's good for something! :pfft: Either that or not having a lot of receptors in the skin.

Anyone know how roaccutane actually works (apart from the obvious "it dries everything out"!).

go to a skin specialist to get it sorted a dermatologist, they will prescribe you to accutane aka isotretinoin

how accutane works is it pretty much is reducing oil production in the skin by reducing sebaceous glands, and it decreases cellular build up leading to white head and black heads, and it also kills acne bacteria deep inside the skin and helps reduce inflammation.

hey guys, isotretinoin(roaccutane, accutane, oratane and isotane-brand names) markedly reduces sebum production and shrinks the sebaceous glands.

it gets rid of comedones and prevents new ones forming.

treated skin is dry, inhibiting the growth of acne bacteria.

iv have been taking 20mg a day for 3 weeks,in that time the acne has got alot worse than it was, but is now begining to reduce.

going back to doctor in 3 weeks time and if it hasnt got much better he will up doseage to 40mg a day.

im going to save some for next testosterone cycle and have maybe 20mg eod, just to maintain good skin. :shifty:

iv had no side affects at all yet,(only dry lips)but there are a few that can happen taking this stuff.

dry cracked lips

dry skin

dry nostrils

dry eyes

dry genitals

fragile skin

increased sweating

facial erythema

sun burn

eczema

impetigo

pyogenic granuloma

paronychia

hair loss

nail changes

headache

muscle aches

tiredness

mood changes and depression

eye problems

hypertriglyceridaemia(high blood fats)

diarrhoea or bleeding from the bowel may rarely occur

.

wow must be quite a powerful drug.

also the doctor monitors bloods.

Sunbeds are a temporary solution IMO. May dry out the skin which helps and also make your skin darker which hides blemishes, but in the long run it just makes things worse.

I'm the same as you Boosting, always had acne. Older brother and sister (23 & 24) still have a bit and younger sister (15) has started to get it within the past couple of years. Went to doc, got put on doxycycline, did sweet f-a. Couple of months later he sent me to a derma who put me on my first lot isotretinoin (aka roaccutane/oratane etc.) which I have been on for four months now. Getting my prescription through the doctor now as it's free (where as derma was gunna cost me $80/visit), the down side of that is doctors tend to be a bit too conservative with the dosing. I'd rather get it over and done with on a high dosage... Been getting my bloods checked every 2-4 weeks and liver levels are actually better now than before I started (BF has come down a bit which I think was the main factor there).

Side-effects aren't too bad for me, nothing a bit of moisturizer and lip balm can't fix. And it's really hard for me to get sunburnt so that hasn't been a problem yet either, might be different as summer kicks on.

Anyway, I was kicking myself for waiting until I was 20 to finally sort it out, you're 25 and still haven't got onto it... Slacker

Nice.. thanks for the input everyone. So like Nate said, I've been given Minomycin (antibiotic) and a Retin-A (cream). I was told that I would have to trail this for 3 months, before I could be referred to a dermatologist, an considered for roaccutane.

So we'll see what happens. Hope this stuff works. My lips get dry as it is, so I could see myself been sensitive to roaccutane.

I'll also look into sunbeds, as I'm going to try melanotan 2, which is meant to be used in conjunction with sunbeds.

my local doc prescribed my oratane,i too had it quite bad when was younger and the test + tren combo didnt help

10mg tablets for 3months on,3months off is what i use.get my bloods and eyes checked also

i notice very dry lips, dry back of neck and some serious itching

but overall find effects quite mild at 10mg per day and results awesome to be honest.clears skin completly and also start to heal/reduce pocking, scar tissue from years ago

l

You shouldn't have to be referred to a derm...any GP can prescribe the stuff nowadays. As for the dosage my doc put me on maximum dose after one month, didn't f*ck around

Yes I could go an see a derm. However the new law (Here in oz) is that the doc can't give out roaccutane. The doc was saying it's stupid, but I guess a derm would have better knowledge regarding skin, skin types, an skin related side effects from the drug ect..

I had cystic acne up until the age of 23/24.

Only got it sorted for good when I came to NZ. Saw a dermatologist for the first time in my life and he said it was disgusting my parents hadn't done anything about it when I was a teen. He was a life saver.

I had gone to the doctors in the UK and was prescribed some shitty pills that did f*ck all, as I had the worst type of acne you can get.

They (the lumps/spots) were like golf ball sized tumors on my face, chest and back that went really really hard and caused me immense pain and misery, then when they went soft i would squeeze them and they would literally EXPLODE all over the mirror with this horrible gunk oozing down my face.

My face is permanently scared from cystic acne, I have these dents in my face.

All I can say is get that shit sorted soon as possible as it really destroyed by teenage years and social life and self esteems. And I know its funny, but the 'cyclops' jokes etc just pissed me off after a while. I just wanted a face that didn't look like the Himalayas lol.

What ype of pills your described obviously depends of the type and severity of your acne, but if you are really bothered by it see a dermatologist ASAP.

I was prescribed Isotane or whatever it was. After about 4-6 months of treatment I NEVER got cystic acne again. Its been bloody brilliant.

^Fucken a bro. Can't believe I didn't get this shit sorted year ago. I've been on Minomycin (antibiotic) and a Retin-A for 1.5 weeks and have no pimples for the first time in forever. \:D/ I did have pimples around my mouth an chin ect... It wasn't a good look. All I had to do was take a little pill an use a little cream. :) Very pleased.

Also glad it's looking like a I won't need roaccutane, as get dry skin as it is..

If those over counter products aren't working. Get that ass to the doctor. \:D/ :pfft:
