Yeah where do yo u get the fonterra stuff? people always mention it but dont say how you can get it, only that fonterra doesnt deal with individuals.

I take it they sell to nutrition shops then and you buy from them, havent found any yet thought :x

I've heard from a Fonterra employee that even they find it hard to get, as supply is often unreliable for some reason to employees.

Protein I use? I switch between Reactiv, Pharmasports, and Leppin. Just normal old Whey Protein Concentrate. So versatile, simple, nice. Nuff' said.

I made an enquiry last year through the "ask a question" on their website, somthing like what are their prices etc was easy to order.

This year getting more was harder as they only sell their A grade isolate to companys or somthing. I said i was qouted from the email guy, she went off and talked to someone then came back and said they could sell us a bag. I got 20kg of concentrate last year for ~$200, this year i got the isolate for ~$400 for a 20kg bag. I spilt the 20kg up with 4 mates, 5kg for the same price as 1 in shops is quite good. It tastes like cottage cheese if you mix it in plain milk, the concentrate is alot creamier due to fats and lactose.

Try ring fonterra (0800 693 247) and ask to order 20kg of Alacen 896 IWPI. If they won't sell their premium stuff, they can sell their 2nd grade which isnt instantised and used commonly in protein bars.

There's someone on trademe who sells isolate which i asume is plain fonterra stuff for quite cheap.

That depends on the grade of whey it is!!! Ok lets get this straight , Fonterra is the NZ dairy company that manufactures whey, Fonterra is one of NZs largest companys,Fonterra is not a manufacture, wholesale or retail brand , it is their company name. They make and produce the raw whey ingrediant that goes to the Manufactures here in NZ and around the world. They do have a company policy about supply to the the general public and to staff supply, so those of you whom are suposibly getting there whey this whey(notice the joke)then it may pay to be reasonably quiet about it as a manufacturer may just be reading this and complain!! and I would say their multiple toneage orders would far out whey(joke) a 20kg bag supply, just a tip!!

Secondly they Whey proteins come in many various forms of quality, especialy in the whey concentrate field, there used to be 12 different varietys in the whey concentrate alone, they have since reduced this choice to 7, each having very different nutritional stats rangeing from crap(pig food) to top of the BVO rated whey!!Each Whey variant has a specific name and codeing , which is used to determin the quality and use of the Whey, with only the top 2-3 being used perdominatly by sport supplement manufactures( thats if they are not cheap rip of artists).Unfortunatly the whey quality does not have to be displayed on the labeling and are only listed as a generic item, Ie, Whey Protein Concentrate , what you should be weary of is the labeling that says Whey Concentrate Blend, as this usaly indicates a blending of good and lesser quality whey as a cost saveing attempt by the manufacture, when in reality only the higest grade whey in this class would be the best option to use !!.

You can always tell the quality of a whey protein product by its mixability, the higher the grade the better the mixability. The reason for this is as the whey progresess through the different levels of filtration the finner the product becomes and the content that hinders digestability and BVO status is removed, so a good test is always "The Mix test", your whey should should start to liquify by just adding water, and then by simply stirring with a teaspoon the whey should easily turn to liquid with miniamal lumps and effort, with the more water you add the more liqufied and clearer it should become( ie Natures Best Isopure Drinks, totaly clear! as it is one of the highest grade whey,s in the world). Some wheys I know use top of the line Whey from Fonterra are, Devine Protein, Pharmasport Whey, Proactive , Leppin,Nutralife, each with its own unique flavouring profiles, do the test on your whey and see what happens, with my whey I can mix it with a teaspoon in 5 seconds, and make a lovely creamy yogurt out of it to poor over my oats or just a litttle more water and make a nice drink out of it, all in a class with a teaspoon!
