Blood test results.

Recommended Posts

Just got my blood tests done and here are the results below.

I got the blood tests done in Auckland when i was over there for a week for work stuff.

so because of that i had quite a bit of fast foods, lots of steak, and little bit of alcohol.

I am not sure how much of that would be affected on the blood tests in just a week . (i got the tests done almost at the end of the week)

But FYI, i usually eat quite clean when im at home.

Just wondering if i should be worried about the results and consult a doctor.

Any suggestions on the highlighted or the results???

01 Oct 2010, Diabetic Profile

Fasting status: Fasting

Glucose: 4.8 mmol/L ( 3.5 - 5.4 )

HbA1c (mmol/mol): 39 mmol/mol ( 20 - 42 )

HbA1c: 5.7 % ( 4.0 - 6.0 )

Comment: Normal fasting glucose.

Note from 03/08/09, HbA1c is reported both in SI units (mmol/mol) and as a

% value.

Total PSA: 0.5 ug/L ( 0.0-2.5 )

Comment: PSA less than upper reference range does not exclude prostate cancer.

Monitoring PSA: biological variation differs among patients, such that an increase between 2 consecutive PSA levels of greater than 30% indicates a change beyond normal random variation.

Method: Siemens Centaur Assay. When monitoring a tumour marker it is

advisable to use the same method each time.

01 Oct 2010, Thyroid Function Tests

01 Oct 2010, Iron Studies

Ferritin: 58 ug/L ( 20 - 400 )

01 Oct 2010, Serum B12 And Folate

B12: 409 pmol/L ( 170 - 600 )

Folate: 38.0 nmol/L ( > 10.0 )

Comment: Borderline range B12 110 - 170

Borderline range Folate 7.0 - 10.0

01 Oct 2010, Renal Function Tests

Sodium: 141 mmol/L ( 135 - 145 )

Potassium: 4.4 mmol/L ( 3.5 - 5.2 )

Creatinine: 113 umol/L ( 60 - 105 ) H

Urate: 0.44 mmol/L ( 0.20 - 0.42 ) H

eGFR: 66 mL/min/1.73m2 ( > 90 ) L

Comment: An eGFR > 60 mL/min/1.73m2 suggests normal kidney function, in the absence of other evidence (e.g. hypertension, proteinuria, haematuria) of kidney damage.

For patients with a clinical history of gout, a target serum urate concentration of 0.36 mmol/L or less is required for long-term prevention of acute gout attacks and regression of tophi.

01 Oct 2010, Liver Function Tests

Total Bilirubin: 6 umol/L ( < 21 )

Alk. Phosphatase: 78 IU/L ( 40 - 110 )

GGT: 44 IU/L ( < 60 )

ALT: 49 IU/L ( < 45 ) H

AST: 35 U/L ( < 45 )

Total Protein: 74 g/L ( 66 - 84 )

Albumin: 45 g/L ( 38 - 52 )

Globulin: 29 g/L ( 22 - 38 )

01 Oct 2010, C-Reactive Protein

CRP: < 1 mg/L ( < 5 )

01 Oct 2010, Lipid Tests

Fasting status: Fasting

Cholesterol: 6.5 mmol/L ( < 5.0 ) H

Triglyceride: 2.6 mmol/L ( < 2.0 ) H

HDL Cholesterol: 1.33 mmol/L ( > 1.00 )

LDL cholesterol: 4.0 mmol/L ( < 3.0 ) H

Chol/HDL Ratio: 4.9 ( < 4.5 ) H

In patients with established CHD risk (including diabetes) the NZGG

optimal levels are Cholesterol < 4.0 mmol/L, LDL Cholesterol < 2.0 mmol/L

and Chol/HDL ratio < 4.0.

In established CHD and diabetes, use optimal levels published by NZGG as

targets. Calculation of cardiovascular risk is recommended, taking into

account all known risk factors. For further information see

http://tinyurl.com/n3ghjn

Asterisked results should be reviewed in the light of the patient's

condition and the reasons for testing - including whether testing is being

carried out for primary or secondary CHD prevention.

01 Oct 2010, Thyroid Function Tests

TSH: 1.7 mIU/L ( 0.30 - 4.00 )

Comment: Consistent with euthyroidism.

Coz that would possibly explain the dislipidemia (bad cholesterol). I wouldnt worry to much about the kidney function and liver function tests physical exertion can raise ALT and creatinine levels indicating myopathy. But in reality its just tissue damage due to exercise. if you're taking creatine at the moment your creatinine levels will also be raised.

Drink more water if you're worried about it see a doc. I would take a look at modifying your diet whats it like atm? Your HDL is all good but LDL is a little high I would consider seeing your doctor about that if you're worried.

Thanks for ur input Riccardo. I havent been taken any creatine since 6months or so.

Could it be that i had quite a bit of steak last 2 days before the blood tests? would that increase it more than normal?

Also i guess the bad cholesterol would be becos of the MC's i had during the week when i was away for work.

But usually my diet is quite good.

Thanks again for ur input.

I will keep clean diet and get blood tests again soon to see if its any different.

Cheers.

Just out of interest:

Do you need to get referred from a doctor to get blood test? or can you just get it done and get the results sent to you?

go to any diagnostic med lab and ask for a full set off bloods cost about 50 bucks if you can get your doc to referr you or your doc to do them should cost you nothing just your normal consult fee
