Hey everyone, it seems everyone has conflicting opinions on this subject. what are your opinions on strategic cheat meals? i repeat, STRATEGIC cheat meals???

Whats a STRATEGIC cheat meal mate?

You mean scheduled?

Theyre good. Offseason, once a day.

Pre-comp: depends how lean you are. However I like re-feeds rather than a cheat meal.

Think everyone is probably going to react different to these but i find for myself so far since i have been keeping notes that if anything STRATEGIC cheat meals are a really good idea.

Doesn't seem to affect FAT LOSS.

SEX drive through the roof for a day or so afterward.

GRUNT at the gym turns back up.

Could see them becoming a problem if you take the STRATEGICNESS out of the equation :pfft:

i plateud at 8% body fat for 2 months (this was just clean eating, nothing extreme), so i tried having a weekly cheat meal, not too dirty, and it got me to 7%. not sure if this was coinsedence or not though

i think you will find this is not coinsedence....

how ever some peoples idea of a cheat meal (5 burgers from burger king) would not end up with the same result.

you are definatly on the right track there mate.

cheers bob

I don't have a STRATEGIC cheat meal, I have a STRATEGIC cheat DAY.

Hell yes every Sunday I eat anything I want. Its a non workout day and apart from making sure I take in my required protein intake during the course of the day I will eat anything and everything.

When you're in a calorie deficit levels of a hormone called Leptin slowly decrease. Leptin is very important in regulating appetite and metabolism, and having a cheat meal or day helps trick your body out of 'starvation mode' and raise leptin levels again, revs that metabolism up and gets you burning fat again. Carbs and lots of them are best for spiking Leptin levels.

I ate a MEGA MACATTACK after legs today ... ) ... worked really well.

....

Cheat meal is exactly that - When I'm mid keto I alow only one meal on a Sunday night and I eat to capacity.

My fav meal = 500g Corned Beef / Mashed Kumara and Potatoes main course (nust have mustard sauce) with coliflour cheese + 1 whole steamed pudding and 1L custard for desert. All the food groups

I have experimented with cheat meals when getting close to competition time, sometimes I get stuck with my bodyweight and a controlled carb burst is very scarey but works. I think it takes a brave person to give it a go when you are down to the wire. Best plan is to look at your diet and pick out some filling carbs (not fibrous) and triple them throughout the day. My example is, I always have a rice wafer and honey with every meal so to start my carb experiment I had 3 with nutella for every meal, apart from the fact that I loved doing it, I also gave my body a good shunt down in weight. So I got brave and the next Friday came around, I got a scoop of hot chips and devoured them for dinner with my protein, same thing, big weight drop.

I have talked to various judges and athletes about this, most would agree that adding this type of food into a depleted athletes diet works wonders.

What have you got to lose!
