Tool, Rammstein, Deftones, Shihad, Iggy and the Stooges and The Black Keys are all heading to Auckland in January for the Big Day Out.

The first line-up announcement, made by organisers this morning, will please rock fans, who have complained that in recent years some of the acts featured on the main stage have been a bit "soft".

Tool headlined the Big Day Out in 2007 but have not played in New Zealand since then. This will be Iggy Pop's third appearance at the event and Rammstein and the Deftones have played previous festivals.

The Big Day out, at Mt Smart Stadium on January 21, will also feature Birds of Tokyo, Airbourne, Plan B, Ratatat, John Butler Trio, Wolfmother, Jim Jones Revue, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77, Booka Shade, Die Antwoord and Vitalic.

Kiwi acts The Naked and Famous, Six60, I Am Giant, Kids of 88, Die!Die!Die!, Bulletproof and Street Chant are in the line-up.

Hip-hopper MIA, dance punks LCD Soundsystem, rapper Lupe Fiasco, Nick Cave's Grinderman, rocker Andrew WK, Primal Scream, Crystal Castles and CSS will also perform.

Tickets go on sale on October 8.

I went in 2007 when Tool and Trivium were here but everything else wasn't to my taste, same with this line up. They need some heavier acts to entertain us metal heads all day

Rammstein & Deftones not doing it for you PD?

Deftones have their moments but that's only 3 hours max (depending on how long rammstein get), gimme 2 more acts, at least, and I'd be happy! :D

Deftones have their moments but that's only 3 hours max (depending on how long rammstein get), gimme 2 more acts, at least, and I'd be happy! :D

Think of Rammstein or the like on Anapolan & Crystal Meth....... ANGRY! But very cool.

It was like a 60 minute fight to stay standing, pretty sure I took more punches than a typical MMA match in that time! :grin:

LOL - we've all had those mosh pit moments.... some of us far to frequently..... pretty sure HLAH would've wanted to ban me from their concerts after some of my escapades! :naughty: Luckily Nigel still says hi! :grin:

I could've added the dislocated shoulder I managed to get at Primus..... all good fun!

Yeah sleeping on cold concrete & waking up with sore kidneys makes you cool! :grin: You should try it some time Jigga..... might pay to wait til it warms up in Dunedin though or you may be found frozen to death outside the Cook...

hopefully tool put on a decent show next year not like last bdo when they played all the crappy new commercial SHIT !

worst iv seen was at the slipknot concert some guys guts leaking blood everywere after being stabbed... shortly followed by a chick falling off some dudes shoulders faceplanting into the the floor and knocked out cold - when she was picked up and carried out she had bits of plastic/metal embedded in her face as it was pissing blood

I went when Ramstein were here years ago. They were playing on one side of the stage and another big act was to follow them on the other side (or was it the other way round? cant remebr). But i remember being about 17 and shitting my pants being squashed to f*ck by a pile of head bangin bogans. Thought i was going to die and to make matter worse the chick mate i had on my shoulders had an anxiety attack in all the pushing and shoving and blacked out.. Didn't think we would make it out alive. Good times 8)
