MCT OIL

Coconut oil is a good source of MCT's but watch it cause it's high in saturated fats

Whats the concern with saturated fat?

Nothing if Paul Chek's in your corner eh Elite!

The heart foundation remain convinced it adds to cardiovascular risk...... I'm picking it's their area of expertise?

there are lots of myths that some people believe in/dont believe in about sat fats. as far as i know ther has been no honest and legitamite study that sat fats are bad for your health, the facts are un proven and they are more theories than facts.

thats wat i heard anyway, still i wouldnt be eating lots of them. i think its unnessarcery.

No mention of coconut oil in that doc

Good indication of target audience, and not comparable IMHO:

The easiest way to reduce saturated fat is to choose reduced fat dairy foods, limit foods such as pastries, pies, pizza, biscuits and hot chips to once a week and trim all meat and poultry of visible fat before cooking.

PD, it doesnt matter as long as everyone is learning. lol

whoever u were that asked, mct oil is great imo i am not using it at the moment but have done in the past, normally put into a shake in the blender with oats, protein powder, banana, egg whites ETC! mct oil is absorbed into the blood so they bypass the digestion system that longer chain fats go thru, mct oil provides quik energy so are less likley to be stored in the fat cells. it gives energy like a carbohydrate.

hope that helped and will get yr thread back on track for discussion/debate.

Did you "time" your ingestion of MCTs? Due to it's properties of quick absorption I think pre-work out and post-work out meal would be ideal but never taken it, I dunna what works best.

pete, i wasnt too iffy about this as i use it mainly to 'bulk' up so was having in all shakes, morning, pre w/o and post w/o.

however lots of people belive mct oil does have fat burning properties so i would be more into timing if was using it for fat loss

I disagree with it's fat burning properties but haven't read much research about it so not gonna say it doesn't happen

There are others who are more informed than Paul....take Mary Enig MS PHD and Uffe Ravenskov MD Phd.

If people did gorge themselves on saturated fat do you think they should have high cholesterol? Obviously the answer is Yes.... but look at the Masai,Sumbura and Somali shepherds in Africa who eat more fat than anyone else despite their cholesterol readings being the lowest ever recorded in healthy people.

Please don"t tell me you agree with them on switching margarine for butter? How can a highly refined TFA loaded spread be better for our health than something naturally made? Also Nate LDL cholesterol is not as bad as they think it is...

Can be good for you but you just don't wanna take in too much. I'm not a nutritionist so not gonna explain anything and say it wrong

Neither am I but this how we learn.... getting our opinions out on the table.

yes as long as you can justify your opinion either via research or your own trial and/or error, otherwise it doesnt mean much.

This is true but sometimes research has its flaws we need to look carefully at such things as who is behind the funding? You will be surprised to find how many papers showing favorable results of margarine that are funded by vegetable oil companies. This can swing both ways though.... for more information check out "Food Politics", by Marion Nestle.

That said good research is good research. A true scientific study that seeks to eliminate bias & confounding variables won't be influenced by who's paying the bill!

Maybe it's time to lay off the natural stuff, the THC seems to be causing paranoia! :pfft: Just teasing Elite!

Good call on that I thought I'd also link this Nate to give you an idea of my train of thought: http://blog.hcfama.org/2010/09/16/studi ... disclosed/

HAHA, its not so much paranoia, its just that i don"t believe everything I read :D, even the stuff I look at needs to be questioned.
