Hey guys,

Was told to come here for guides and help regarding fitness.

So far I'm a bit overweight. I'm sorting myself out a plan starting Monday for myself to lose the weight. I love weights and lifting and find that side highly enjoyable, the cardio however not so much. I don't belong to a gym and won't as I'm broke, but do have access to a rower, treadmill, exercise bike and various weights (5 - 45kgs).

What i'd like to know is the best way to burn off the fat and what supplements I can take in order to increase the speed of my progress. :-?

Oh and I'm 18 years old.

Cheers! :)

I may as well ask before anyone else does, post up your current diet and stats.

Forget about supplements until you suss out your diet and hit a plateau with it

Sorry, what do you mean by stats? I'm 6', 110kg's.

My diet so far is pretty bad.

  • No breakfast (Will be having it from now on)
    Muesli bar, water.
Sandwich or chips and a drink
    Water
Stirfry/Curry/Sausages/homemade burgers (One from the list with either Rice or Potatoes and veges)
    Water or OJ.

EDIT: And by Googling around I think I'm a Mesomorph? But with a gut. If that's at all possible.

Buy a good barbell, some second-hand plates and a bench. Then save up for a squat rack. If you enjoy weights, then go hard on that!

Just did that on Thursday. Picked up a set, need a bench though. So far im just doing basic curls etc, but i think i need to lose weight first. Freakin' loving the weights. Feels great

If you're broke how can you afford supplements?

Sorry i should rephrase that, I can't afford a membership, but I can afford to get some supplements. I havn't got a job - last year of school.

Hey mate, welcome to the forums. I know I'm kind of echoing what's been said already, but I think you'd get better results if you put your money into a gym membership rather supplements.

As a student, you'll get a discount on memberships, so you could likely find a gym for $15/week - maybe less. That $15 won't go very far on supplements. A gym will also give you much more flexibility to vary your workouts than training at home, and I think that would help your overall progress too.

If you do decide to go with supplements rather than a gym membership, don't waste your money on fat-burners. That's not to say they're usless, but if dollars are tight, a basic protein powder is the first thing to buy. Search the forum, and you'll find lots of suggestions of cheap protein brands.

Hope that helps. :)

Yeah I might look at a membership later on, but for now I'll stick to at home. That way I won't be wasting money if I give up for some reason. :?

And one other thing, are there any brands that are good/bad when buying protein?

Cheers for the help so far :)

If anything wouldn't it motivate you to go more?? I know i'm alot more motivated when at the gym, it's too easy to palm off your workouts when at home I reckon, can always find an excuse :pfft: but hey if it works for you...

as long as you get the results at the end of the day aye

1. No point starting if you think you might give up. Thats the wrong mindset for a start.

2. Money spent on supplements is better spent on real foods.

3. If your overweight, high intnsity interval training is the only way to go for quick fat loss.

Ben

Cheers.

I don't feel that I will give up even though I may have said that. I just feel that if in some case I did give up and have spent $400+ on a gym membership I'd feel like a twat. Plus I don't have constant income to pay for a weekly membership, just a set length one from savings. To be honest a Gym membership is not going to happen currently. Maybe next year.

Basically I'm sorting out a diet and a plan. I've been looking through the forum and have foudn articles relating to training plans. So far I have it set like so:

Monday: Weight training (Rippetoes)

Tuesday: 15min jog + small amount of weights

Wednesday: Weight training (Rippetoes)

Thursday: 15min jog + small amount of weights

Friday: Weight training (Rippetoes)

Saturday: Break

Sunday: Break

The diet is still being worked on.

Hi,

I am nitemare_69 An trying to get into working out again and more serious about bodybuilding. I am totally lost here about what to do in everything from sports supplements to getting workout equipment. I moved here from the US last year and lived in Christchurch up till about a month ago.I know live in Nelson. Really want to start hitting the weights hard but there is like no where to buy equipment and all gyms here are for spin people and yuppies. Also have looked at going to the dark side but it seems tighter than a nuns c*nt over here on that. Look forward to any and all help and if I dont respond fast its because I dont have a computer yet.

Cheers
