Results in the qualifiers so far:

All a bit sketchy as athletes can't relay results or they get disqualified!

Looks like a lot lost calluses on the farmers, Robert Szczepanski may be withdrawing due to injury (lat tear), and possibly Big Z has torn a quad.

Poundstone was sounding sub par (quad tear a week or so ago) but he's back to 2nd in his group. Hollands dominating his group (after a full bicep rupture & surgery 10 weeks ago!). Kokylaev doesn't seem to be making the impact expected of him?

Brian Shaw looking good FTW!

Group 1 Stefan Solvi & Brian Shaw

Group 2 Terry Hollands & Derek Poundstone

Group 3 Travis Ortmayer & Ervin Katona

Predictions for the top 5 gentlemen?

I'm going 1st / 2nd (unsure!) - Shaw / Z, 3rd - Hollands, 4th - Ortmayer, 5th - lbstone

mariusz is well past it. a bit perplexing how he sucks balls in mma whereas brock lesnar from fake wrestling kills everything in his path.

strongman. yawn. bring back kaz.

Mariusz beat up on Butterbean last weekend..... and was looking trim at 118kg. Maybe he'll be better going forward now he's dropped some size? Talk of Kimbo Slice next?

i've only watched a couple fights of his. looked good in one, ran out of gas in the other. with all that strength and size i expected him to just spear and hammer fist like brock. i think i had overly high expectations for him. didn't see the butterbean fight and i haven't seen what kimbo is up to in a while but i imagine slice would take it out

Brock was NCAA D1 wrestling champ, only getting beat by Stephen Neal, one of the all time greatest wrestlers. Brock was a top athlete in his own right. Plus the UFC have managed him well, put him up against the wrong guy, and he'll get beat. Which is why he's mostly fought guys with similar skill sets to him, and lost to a competent BJJ exponent.

From Sugden Barbell

1. Z. Savickas 51.5pts (2 event wins, 1 2nd)

2. B. Shaw 51.5pts (2 event wins)

3. M. Koklyaev 46pts

4. S. Solvi-Petursson 33pts

5. T. Ortmayer 30pts.

6. N. Best 27.5pts

7. E. Katona 25.5pts (1-4th place)

8. T. Hollands 25.5pts

9. D. Poundstone 21pts

10. J. Bergmann 18pts

Big Z was 2 points in front off Shaw going into stones. Shaw win stones followed by Solvi-Petursson and Z, meaning Z and Shaw tie on points. Z wins on countback having 2 wins and a second placing in the events compared o 2 wins for Shaw. Wow that close.

Well done Big Z!! Nate I know very little about Shaw, is he the real deal from the states? Also, do you know if Poundstones quad injury played on him this year? Good to see Misha do well.

Awesome to see Zydrunas win again, probably the most modest guy I've ever met. No doubt he'll make a statement like "is good i very happy" and smile as he always does - personally I'd be doing backflips & hitting bicep poses like Svend Karlsen if I won WSM! His record speaks for itself:

-19 years of competition

-169 strongman competitions

-144 podiums

-99 wins

-46 World records

-41 Powerlifting competitions

-39 podiums

-28 wins

-210 overall strength sports competitions

-183 podiums

-127 wins.

2 x WSM, 6 x Arnold Strongman, 2 x Strongman WorldChampionships, 2009 Fortissimus.

(Thanks Paul Ohl for the factoids!).

Derek & Terry were injured prior (Terry bicep surgery for full detachment 10 weeks out, Derek massive quad tear a week or two out) so definately impacted on them.

I heard Travis hurt his foot during the Log Press and it cost him in that event and I believe in the stones (possibly top 3 otherwise).

Brian Shaw is an ex Basketballer, 6'8" around 200kg, and young at 28 years old. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Shaw_(strongman)

Being picked as the athlete likely to dominate the future of Strongman by many.
