Loss of strength in legs

A while back it use to be real painful in my right hip after getting up from a sitting position. It was only when I stood up & would go away real quick. Its gone now but I still feel a little pain in my right hip now & then. I also seem to have lost a lot of strength in my legs, the other day I started some lunges & almost fell over as I could not hold the load of my own body! My legs turned to jelly. Today after an ab workout my legs felt weak. I'm not sure what the hecks going on but it sure suks. Anyone had something similar before?

Do you have any tingling in your toes?

Umm... Check this out:

http://www.hmc.psu.edu/healthinfo/h/hiv.htm

"Symptoms such as a loss of strength in the arms or legs and problems with coordination and balance indicate a viral infection of the brain called progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML)."

You want to scare him to death?

No... Just providing information. I hope it's not that :?

HAHAHAHA PML is extremely rare and only occurs in severely immuno compromised patients so unless he has AIDs, is recieving chemotherapy or is on immuno suppressants then theres a one in a bazillion chance....actually make that a zero chance lol. This the problem with the internets, people self diagnosing.

Can you be more specific? What kind of pain..Dull sharp? did it feel like a muscular ache? did your hip sort of click when it happened? As for the weakness is it intermittent or there all the time?

Don't mean to be rude OP but are you overweight? could be that you are pinching a femoral nerve.

May also be just an imbalance, tight hip flexor or something But that wouldnt necessarily account for the weakness.

If it was a nerve there would be pins and needles in his feet

Paresthesias arent always classical "pins and needles" sensations, may feel like burning, itching etc. Wouldn't necessarily have to be in the feet either, likely to be on the anterio-medial aspect of the leg if its a femoral nerve. But I think its more likely to just be a muscular problem.

After careful consideration of your symptoms, and much consultation with my colleagues, Dr Ronin can now deliver the following:

Diagnosis: Something is wrong

Correct treatment: Stop listening to interwebby juju doktas, and seek a qualified medical opinion.

My bill is in the email

Have you recently had any time off lifting? I had a week off a while back and after that my legs were weak as and I would fail a squat that I could do no problems previously. Everything else was fine

Turned out to be a CNS issue not actually muscle loss, and it corrected itself after a short time

Ive stopped working out my legs for two weeks now in case it's just an injury. It seems to be getting better, did an upper body workout today & no problems with the legs. I think Ive got some sort of hip injury/strain. Forgot to mention a few weeks back I would be walking along and suddenly get shooting pain through my quadricep, that's gone now though. Funny thing was I was doing really well with my legs, they were getting really strong & then this happened. Must have over down it somewhere but never felt the injury happen.
