hi everone, im 13, im 5'8 ft, and 110 lbs. i've been lifting weights, doing pullups, and a bunch of other muscle building workouts for 2 years. i workout 4 times a week, 1 hour a day.

i have bigger ans stronger muscles than all the 13 year olds i know.

but my chest muscles arnt big. do u have any suggestions i should use to make my chest bigger?

and last but not least my abs arein really good shape, except you can'tsee them very clearly because there's a tiny bit of fat so u can see them a little. should i go on diet or is it bad for my age?

Not your most helpful comments ever, DontRun, Rose. :-s

FitnessFirst, good on you for starting out. I just wish I'd started that early. It sound like you're working out enough - 4x 1hr workouts is good. What does each workout look like? Can you list the exercises you do each day?

I don't think you need to start dieting yet. Just focus on building more muscle, and provided you're not eating rubbish, you'll stay lean enough.

Hey mate

A good workout programme is very important. You cant just walk into the gym and randomly do anything and everything.

Get a good plan sorted by the gym you go to. Im sure they would be happy to help. Let them know your goals, what you want to achieve and they should sort you out and give you a run through your workouts. You will get a better understanding of the the types of workouts, and which workout actually effects which muscles etc

Eating right is also key.

Are you at a gym FF? I thought the legal age for joining a gym was 14? I could be wrong though?

You need to get on a pre-made routine, mainly as that will work out your whole body equally and with optimum set/rep schemes etc, and provide sufficient rest times so your muscles have time to grow. You won't get big by neglecting certain body parts and working others hard

Also equally as important as your routine, you need to eat a good diet with lots of food, and a good amount of protein. A protein powder supplement can help up your protein intake, but overall calories are the main thing. You need to take in more calories than you need so that your body can use it to build muscle. This just means eat more than your body needs basically

And as others have said, sleep is very important as it is the time when your muscles repair and grow. And as your body is still growing anyway due to your age, you need a hell of a lot of it

The key to getting results is through variation. You have to shock your body everytime you train. That's when your body adapts and grows. Go on the internet and find some exercises. There are so many different exercises out there.

All gyms have different rules but generally you need to be at high school to join. My 3 children each joined what was Pro Fitness when they reached 13 but they had to have a PT once per week for the first 6 months.
