Protein Shakes Help

Recommended Posts

Hey I was just wondering what is the best protein shake out. Preferably the cheapest. I don't mind buying in bulk. But I don't want something expensive. Thanks. :D

Unfortunately bro you won't find the best protein powder at the cheapest price. I'm not saying you won't find good deals or a bargain or two every so often but in general you get what you pay for. You are on the right track asking for peoples opinions. Also do your own research, in particular look at the ingredients in the powder and find out as much as you can about what is actually in the tub or bag. Don't get sucked into the advertising hype that most manufacturers do with their products.

I use pro peptide from CNP and find it very good.

  • Sweet Dude! Would it be better than the Nutrateh shit?

I wouldn't say better, Nutratech whey seems to be a good locally made product.

That being said, Bioplex whey is a good quality protein. I've gone through a few of the buckets in chocolate, it's fairly light on the flavouring and not too sweet which I actually quite like. At $280 for 10kg it's probably one of the best deals going.

Whole foods are always better, protein shakes are still just a supplement, use it when you cant reach you protein intake goals with your current diet or if you specifically need it post workout etc. Blends are good but in a popular health trends magazine for retailers and manufacturers it was advised early 2009 to go the blend route for the following reasons.

1. The pure Whey market is to competitive

2. Bigger profits on blends

3. In blends you can change the formula as you like and ensure you are not in direct competition with other brands

I am not trying to dis blends but always have a good look, some blends go as low as 69% protein as compared to Whey proteins that stick around 80%. Whey is also the most bioavailable of the sources so why not go just for that.

At 62Kg I would run of to mad buthcher and Pak & Save and buy heaps of whatever I can fit into my trolley. Also don't get to mixed up by the good stuff, I would look at protein content for my $$$ at the end of the day, focusing to much on the good stuff could be the same than filling your 1960 VW beetle with higher octane fuel and expect it to perform like it just got a turbo.

there you go again hennie! open a god damn food shop already!

The nutra tech stuff is a great product and is a great price. tastes awesome in water, even better in milk, mixes well with no lumps and has a good amount of protein per serve.

go for 2-3 protein shakes a day, and 3-4 food meals and you'll gain well, works for me.

what does the non-flavoured one taste like?

Watery milk at best. If you're trying to gain weight, at least make a meal out of it. Blend it with olive oil, nut butter, anything of calorific value. Protein powder on it's own is not bulking material.
