deadlift speed

Ok so yesterday done some dead testing when I did my 250kg which I had only lifted once before I went for my usual controlled set up gradually pulling off the floor with as much technique as possible at that weight it was heavy as f*ck but came up then went to 255kg which was my target weight however as I thought the 250 was max and wasnt expecting it to rise too far so i went for it set my feet sat deep into the hole and pulled with speed off the floor not gradual motion as usual but as hard and fast as I could and it flew up much easier than the 250kg.I feel I have learnt a valuable lesson here being break that initial inertia(I think this is appropriate word) as hard and fast as possible......

Any thoughts on this big boys........????

Explosive power from the floor is the key to big deadlifts mate or any lift to that point is long as its controlled explosive power you have hit it on the head,speed is the key it can pull you though sticky points where you might get stuck if pulling at a slower speed but this will depend on the individual and how they train for me the heavier I go the harder it becomes to use this speed we are talking about,( this is why I use deficit deadlifts its a method they use for floor speed and power of the starting position)

but in bold is the key to all lifts either bench from press command or squats from out of the hole what ever the case work on explosive power

Hard & Fast & Controlled.... If those three words can be put together.

You know what i mean.

1.Chalk up your hands

2.Grab the bar (one hand normal grip & the other reverse)

3.Pull a face that looks like this :twisted: lol. Grunt a little if nesscessary.

4.Most important step RIP that shit off the ground.

Hmmm yes speed is important but I see alot a people go from a relaxed position strait into full speed lift i.e. like their body has started to move before they have put any real tension on the bar (hard to explain). I find building a little tension first then just pulling as hard as poss from there works best for me. Everyone diff though.

I know exactly what your saying mate and its something I try advocate too I say to them take up as much tension as you can without moving the bar then lift its amazing what you learn just by doing it and no better coach than doing it over and over.....

250kg isn't something a newbie like nzmusclemonster could dead, you been at it awhile, you should know these things.

Do you pull sumo or regular? Double overhand or switch?

I've never even thought about speed when deadlifting. I'm too busy trying to make sure everything else is set up properly.... Too much brain power required for me :pfft: Perhaps if I master thinking about speed too my deadlift will go up a bit.

Ass down, head up, stay tight, stand up as fast as you can.......it's not complicated, don't make it.

I just checked your blog, judging by your pic you weigh about 115-120 depending on how tall you are. And those are some damn good numbers you're putting up.
