Powerlifting competions

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if there is some one that can help me and guide me in the right direction. I have been training for almost 6 years now and most of my interest is to become a pro bodybuilder which i need time to achieve but at this stage i thought that it might be good to give power lifting a go. Bench press, squats and maybe dead lifts.

I have been told by mate's that i should, and i would do really good at.

Currently i bench 2 times my body weight 2-3 reps, working to squat 3 times my body weight and i dead lifted more than 2 and bit more times then my body weight.

Where do competitions happen?

Any help appreciated!

Its all for love B-88 unfortunately. At a novice meet you might get a certificate and if your lucky a trophy or supps (depending on the organiser). As Bar-belle mentioned, contact the Auckland Powerlifting Assoc. through the website and they will let you know of any upcoming meets.

At your current weight, you would be lifting in the 75kg class - if you lost weight then your next class down would be the 67.5kg class. Good luck and might see you at a comp one day.

You can come see it your self at New market city fitness gym, i usually train chest Monday's and legs on Tuesdays. This evening might do dead lift and see how it goes.

Why would the dead be so far behind the squat? That seems weird but maybe that is just me.

EDIT: oh wait, that's what PMan was getting at. My bad.

Don't tell me there are people on here that lie about the weights they lift!

Haha I was more getting at the fact that if he was going to make up a weight he should pick a decent ratio.

At 70kg his stats means a 210kg squat and 140kg deadlift. I would've thought that dead would lead squat for a raw lifter.

Sorry for riffing on you mate, thing is you'll see a lot of guys that are gym lifters quoting numbers that sound a bit out of kilter and it's not because you're lying, just that sometimes the form isn't up to par for powerlifting standards.

Almost always when you see a guy claiming an outrageous squat but an average deadlift and there's no powerlifting equipment involved it's a good bet that the squat isn't to legal depth. Same goes for the bench, which is the most abused gym-lift.

Not saying you aren't strong, or that you're lying, but that's why people have been ribbing you.
