Boxing vs running

Ok so i was wondering which is better for cardio. For the last month or so ive been doing both, but on different days. And i hate running. Any thoughts on which is better?

I think I remember watching a doco a few years back where they measured a bunch of athletes VO2 max and some boxer came out on top. In general cross-country skiers dominate though.

In my opinion if you could get yourself to a significantly high level of fitness, you would find running really enjoyable. We used to run 10-15km up the Port Hills in the morning for training and I felt like I could go forever. Your heart is pounding really fast and you are pouring out sweet but you aren't in serious pain or anything it's completely relaxing. When you first start your lungs burn like crazy and you are in a decent amount of pain but you can break through that and it's plain sailing afterwards. Just my personal experience.

I'd go with some short sharp intense boxing workouts... as your anaerobic system improves so will your aerobic system improve.... as far as I know this can not work in reverse.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of running purely because of the micro-trauma placed on the joints through repetitive stress, and that when observing people run their form is just terrible. ACL injuries just waiting to happen.

My 2cents here

Hey bro. i have just started boxing as well. Because i really hate cardio and it feels boring just running repetitive. ...

With boxing, it feels like good cardio and im also learning a skill :)

I just hope it doesnt effect too much with my weights.

Could someone please confirm how much would be too much?

I currently do 2 x 1hr boxing classes a week.

I train a lot in BJJ and have found that I can't train weights and BJJ in the same day. It utterly kills me and I'm sore for days afterwards. Now I'm doing a lot of functional conditioning instead and BJJ.

Most martial arts are killer from the cardio aspect. Hard intense short intervals are amazing for your fitness.
