bodybuilding.com tax?

I saw an article, might have been in The Dominion, that said the valuye of the duty and GST or whatever had to be over a certain amount for it to make it worthwhile collecting.

It's a bit of a crapshoot but for luxury goods where the tax/duty/GST is high, they'll bother, but protein/ supps/ fatburners (where the duty is less), you'd have to be spending a fair amount of money for the duty and GST exceed the figure (which from memory was $NZ 50 of duty/tax).

I always buy from there (when I need to buy in bulk) and never got taxed, only time they ever charged me was when they had to check out my 15 lbs of MGN protein and they charged me like 25ish bucks....but then again my biggest order would of been about 380ish NZD

Theres a deminimus of $50 which means they wont collect anything under that amount.

The value of the goods ordered is not relevant because some goods incurr both duty and gst.Additionally gst is charged on the landed value which also includes the freight.

Hi Gasp,

Yep, that's what I "meant to say" :)

Any idea where we can find the lists of what products attract how much duty, like whey/ supps ? Also, am I right in thinking it relates to the invoiced price from the vendor, not the NZ street price ?

The answer you are lookin for regarding taxes and stuff is as follows

NZ$400 and over you get charged GST. The GST is based on the whole price with shipping included. It also pays to Calculate(multiply) your amount with shipping by 1.5. Do this while you are in your order status on BB.coms website. If your order comes in at undr NZ$400 your sweet if you are over you will be paying taxes.

The 1.5 is the rate customs charges for exchange rates. That might have gone up to 1.6 but not sure. Anyway hope this helps. Just remember as well that virtually 80% of BB.com's supplements are unabled to be perchased due to NZ regulations. Even trying to order a multi will prove impossible.

Hope this info helps

Cheers

Its not bollocs Buddy. You try buying anything with Zinc in it from them and you will be unsuccessfull. Trust me i've been buying from these guys for over 4 years and i had to chop and change alot of supps over the years cause one after the other got restricted buy because mostly of zinc, gabba, DHEA just to name a few. I'll give you an example, you try buying Optimum's Opti Men. You will not succeed.

So yeah maybe i over estimate by a little but that because i have huge experience with them.

True there are some products you will have problems with but a majority of them you will have zero problems. If you can buy it here (with the exception of a couple doz) you can purchase it at BB.com

PS not trying to just stuck in just don't believe in throwing random figures out there without supporting it some how.

Forget the 1.5 stuff and divide your purchase price price by the US exchange rate. Over the past year there have been significant fluctuations.

Read my previous calculation otherwise some of these will end up confusing the hell out of you and you may cross the $50 threshold.

Also its important to know whether the supplement has just gst or incurs both duty and gst.The $400 has no relavence what so ever if there is duty as well.

However, in saying that, most supplements are now free of the duty component.

Medsafe are fairly intolerant on supps with too much zinc. They also have had issues with Gaspari Superpump however its ok for now.

The list of supps not allowed from BB.Com now runs several pages. Hopefully it will be published here sometime

Hi Gasp

i can most definately asure you of the exchange rates. Go over $400 and you pay GST on the total price and not on the amount you have gone over by. Go over a $1000 and you will have to get a customs clearance nr prior to your shipment and you also pay an extra $35 for duties. I made over $4000 worth of purchases from them in the last 3 months and i have been dealing with them for over 4 years now. I think i know what i am talkin about but dont take my work for it. I am currently waiting for another big shipment due friday.

I do agree with you on the current restriction of supps not allowed. The list is long and i have it, courtasy of exporting dept of BB.com. I will track it down and hopefully post it sometime. The good news i bring you though is that BB.com is working on a new platform launching in about 6-8 months that will see the restrictions taken away with the exception of very few products.

Hope this helps.

No offence taken Darkmanx. I`m obviously pretty new to this.

I`m always willing to push aside my 32 years experience in classifying and clearing millions of dollars of these products and concede there are many people out there who are far more learned.

^^

I think we are just seeing the difference between an importer's view & a customs officers view!

It seems never the twain shall meet, it's not good business sense to agree entirely with our importing laws & it's not good for customs job security to allow erosion of the laws!

It does however give people a balance view of the state of affairs in relation to what gets in & what is charged versus what should get in & should be charged!
