Recommended supplements (what do you take)

Recommended Posts

I understand that there is a large range of opinions out there regarding to the use and degree of use of supplements, from creatine and amino acids to everyday use of protein powders as supplement to aid in there daily requirements.

Just out of pure interest (rather nosey) what is your daily use of supplements and which would you recommend in being an important part of your daily diet.

For example,

Do you take an EFA and if yes, which? eg, Flax-seed over Fish oil?

Amino acids?

Multi vitamins?

creatine? new age or good old proven and tested mono?

I keep it simple & primarily use:

Multi, Vit C, Fish Oils, Iron (I get clinically deficient), Whey Protein (probably more of a food than a supplement), a Protein/Carb drink intra-workout.

I also use pre-workout supplements & creatine on a cyclic basis as well as Joint Formulas when my knees get too creaky!

Have been trying a few new bits & pieces thanks to the good folk at http://www.bodybuilding.co.nz

Multi Vit

Fonterra Protein Powder

Cardiac Asprin (old person but great for blood flow)

I think when approaching supplementation you should think about the most crucial windows where nutrient intake is the most important I.e:

Preworkout (Creatine mono, AAKG, beta alanine ect)

Intra (BCAA's, and other EAA's)

Post (Creatine, BCAA's+EAA's, Carbs, + Whey protein)

and as always a decent intake of vitamins, minerals and fish oil and you are pretty well covered.

Oh an of course plenty of real food! 8)

^ This.

Other than protein powder, I cycle on and off plain old creatine mono.

Sometimes I'll have a multivitamin, but mostly I forget about it. And if I'm feeling poorly, I'll have some vitamin C.

That's it. Wild, I know! :D

First two arnt supps but are regular foods i use to aid my training

Meat n Veg

Oats

Whey

BCAA - Xtend or MGN bcaa

Glucose

ZMA/multivit if i get lazy with the vegies

cycling creatine, and beta alanine together

coffee

and anything else is a toy

fat burners(man wanna try yohimbine O_O), pre workout, test boosters, halodrol and novedex, etc

worth a try just for shits and giggles, but i wouldn't consider them cost efficient

just got some jack3d wasnt that impressed but it has beaten every other pre workout things ive tried.

http://www.shotgunsupplements.co.nz/ are rather generous with samples, or you can try bb.com and get a bunch of single serves.

good luck!

Protein Powder

Creatine Mono on a cyclic basis

Glutamine (usually only when restricting calories)

Fish Oil Tabs

Anything else is in my opinion not worth the cost vs reward comparison. Not saying some down help but just that food is expensive enough without adding hundreds of dollars a month on top of that.

In saying that if i spot a good deal on somthing im curious to try out i might have a go eg.. Im currently using CLA because i got hold of it really cheap and am not a bit fan of thermogenics.

1x mens multi

and im currently taking/testing jack3d this month.

i dont really go overboard on the supplements either, just stick to the basics. ive had joint related problems in the past so thats why i like taking the joint formula. it does seem to help.

monohydrate-Eat me

EFA-nutralife

Whey-Eat me

Jack3d

cycling creatine, and beta alanine together

I see a couple of peeps stacking creatine and beta alanine. I wanted to but was like $$$.

IYO, is it more efective than just straight creatine? Ive read some good articals on it and seems quite tempting. \:D/

thinking about some L-Glute if I dial back on the cals, still reasurching.

i have used a heap of supplements & never really had any decent results due to poor diet.

In the past i have used fat burners, muscle builders, test boosters, creatine, nitric products. Thats just to list a few of them

Supplments now are as follow.

9 odourless 1000mg fish oil caps a day.

1 vitamin c 1000mg a day.

1 multivitamin a day.

a couple of protein shakes.

& i am now getting the best results i have ever had, just by using these and sticking to a solid 9 meal a day diet.

Conclusion - Diet is where it is at. Supplements if everything else is perfect may offer a 10% advantage at the most.. (correct me if i am wrong)

I am talking about supplements that are availiable over the counter. :pfft:

its it true that you needa build musscle from fat first?

i take mutant mass but the stuff is terrible, if its not the case id rather take something thats not to thick

no you don't have to get fat in order to build muscle....

it is normal even if you are eating correctly to put a little bit of body fat on while you are gaining muscle mass.

mass gainers such as mutant mass are a little bit of a over kill unless you are a ectomorph and find it extremly hard gaining weight.

It's not that bad BB.com has some good sales on it $39USD so to make it worth the postage I'll normally buy 3 boxes. Hence the when I can afford it :D
