Good butcher in Wellington

A lot of folks swear by Gipps St Butchers in Karori.

Personally, I've used Village Quality Meats in Khandallah (I get a raw ham from them each Xmas), and there's Cameron Harrison, just taken over a shop at 4 Crofton Rd, Ngaio - most of these folk have aged beef (rump, porterhouse etc), and I've found their prices competitive.

But I've also found the tradesmen butchers behind the counter at Thorndon New World are good. New World's not especially cheap, but if you want 50mm thick cuts of rump, forget about the pre-packed trays of stuff. Talk to them and they'll slice it just the way you want. I've even had them bring out a whole rump to choose the right cuts...

Great thanks guys I might have to start doing the rounds, if I eat the specials at the stupidmarket it's quite cheap, but a good butcher might be cheaper. Husband is a butcher but he works in Le stupidmarket.

I would buy a whole cow but then I'd have to eat all of it and I only like certain parts. :pfft:
