Real estate rant

So, being sick of spending two hours every day getting to and from work, I'm looking for a place in town. And frankly, it sucks. There's nothing that meets both A) what I want, and B) what I can afford.

Clearly city apartments are not built for people with lives, because where do you put the bike or the scuba gear? Hell, where do you cook?! Most of these apartments have half a stove, and a piddly little mini-fridge. As for the bench-space, well, there isn't any. I know bodybuilders cook more than most people, but these apartments are ridiculous.

Hah. Should've known I wouldn't get sympathy from anyone outside Auckland. You're all pricks! :P

The real bastard is when, having found the only good place in the entire CBD, you discover it's leasehold. The bank doesn't like apartment mortgages at the best of times (they only lend 50% on apartments), but leasehold is an absolute no-no. Looks like I'll be renting and sitting in traffic for a while longer yet. :(

You sure? I think banks most banks only approve mortgages if the apartment is over a certain size. I think 55-sqm plus, don't hold me to that though!

There are some nice leasehold apartments out there but lease hold is a no-no.

Keep looking, it took me a while.

Pseu, there are other options - i live in mt eden, not quite so expensive as cbd, but within a 10 min drive. there are heaps of more affordable areas within a 10-15 minute shot to the heart of AK. Just gotta pick a hood!

 i agree with this ^

i live in mt albert, 10 min drive into the city. as long as you're not travelling in rush hour

Just a minute Pseudo while I get my violin out  Why dont you get your ARC to turn those prime waterfront cement silos or the sheds on Queens wharf into low cost public housing instead of party city for 2 weeks during the World Cup :pfft: But hey Man, I actually love Auckland as long as I'm only there for a few days. Give me 400-500 thousand pop. like CHC & you have got a very managable city size with an infrastructure that is not groaning at the seams to cope. :D

That is a very good idea musclenz by turning those cement silos along the waterfront in Auckland into low cost houseing aperments.I love Auckland as when I am there for a few days.Everythingh is nice and close in Dunedin and where I live in Dunedin it is only 16 minute bike ride to the gym sometimes it can take long when I am biking into the wind.

How about Devonport and a ferry trip everyday?I looked at a job in Auckland city recently and that was my plan. Currently doing Torbay-East Tamaki everyday. 35 minutes door to door leaving home at 6am and leaving ET at 3pm... unless its raining
