Fair enough guys, guess it's all fun n games eh. Lol! I must admit, this whole powerlifting thing caught my attention when I saw TonganTerror's comeptition video... Watching your video on fb now steak pretty good bro.

What are reasonable lifts for 70kg guy? Lol

most of the BBs where we train actually stop to watch us lift and ask if we need the squat racks now. ive offered to help them into the sport but musy admit they are too weak minded, cant eat enough and are scared of hours of hard work. there are a couple of good hardcore BB lifting here though 8)

I thought bodybuilders would eat more than powerlifters?

In my opinion a parallel squat is half a squat, so if i'm squatting its all the way down

Can someone please enlighten me on the possible cons/pros for both movements applicable to both strength and size gains.

Thanks in advance

Generally if you have a close stance (focused on building the quads) with a reasonable load if you squat ATG your knees will track forward and you will be barely below parallel.

If you your goal is big legs and you are squatting go all the way down (if you can safely).

mike has so much power he blew the judge off his chair

other interesting facts about mike:

Superman wears mike gardener underpants

If you want a list of mike gardener’s enemies, just check the extinct species list

Aliens do exist. They're just waiting for mike gardener to die before they attack.

Who would win the race between Ironman and Superman to the moon?

mike gardener

Mike gardener can slam a revolving door.

but yea he trains at eastside so im sure some of those guys can fill you in on his height etc. but freakishly strong

Sucks how bbers and plers can't get along lol.. I got respect for both eh. Two totally different things and each have their own merits and weaknesses.

Tounge and cheek - I think most PLers and BBers don't care what the other does.

It's a bit like Australia vs NZ ...

and ... anyone can lift heavy if they put thier mind to it - takes a lot more to do it whilst running on ketones for 12 weeks

care when going ATG, busted my knee tendon not controlling the decline motion O_O owned. going below parallel if you can is a totally different squat ay though takes twice the effort to get back up, and makes for a killer workout.

  • 4 weeks later...

I used to go ATG but found my glutes got too over developed from it, a ghetto booty on a little white boy just isn't the look. Everyone's biomechanics are a little different, gotta figure out what the go is for you, but to reiterate what has been said earlier, PLers should be mostly squatting like they should in comp with some half or extra deep reps from time to time. BBers need only hit parallel for the most part because of the gluteal recruitment. Some dudes like to stop short of parallel but it's an ego thing. Dudes like Branch Warren might do it but he is a genetic freak, don't think you'll make the same gains.

As to PLers having legs to rival bodybuilders, bullshit! Check out IFBB pro Stan Efferding, he's a PLer that moonlights as a BBer and has terrible proportions, the dudes legs are embarrassing to see (to be fair he would beat me). Sure their legs have mass but not BBer mass, then again, BBers can squat heavy but not on the same level, bar the freaks like Ron

Get over yourself... By the same token what about fat mofo's that claim to be powerlifters, that can't do a proper squat of 140? You're always going to get fuckwits in both sports, or people who just do it half arsed. At times the goals are very similar. Like when my squat Platoed at 180. I had to bight the built and step the cals up, also getting a little fat, like ALL powerlifters. haha Joking...

...you obviously never saw Derek and Wayne Pomana's leg development. Add to that list Frank Bolgaris, Lance Stewart, Rodney Tupouniua, Craig Mcguigan, Steve Varga, Neil Lauaki and so on. All these guys are from NZ and had legs that would make people take a second look just to make sure they werent seeing things!!!

Hell if they took half the jungle juice that some "pro-BB'ers" are taking you'd see Ronnie Colemans mass size in nearly every gym in South Auckland! :pfft:
