high protein/low sugar deserts...?

Recommended Posts

i've been on a maintenance diet for the past 6 mnths, going to start bulking again soon, and am looking for a high protein, low sugar, low saturated fat desert that i'll typically eat after 9pm.

i've heard the best thing to eat at night would be a slowly digesting protein like meat, but i'm not hardcore enough to do that after having it for dinner lol... nutritionist recommended 200g yogurt with a banana, which has been good but get sick of it every night.

anybody know of an egg-based desert with not too much sugar..? in theory i could just chuck a few more whites in to up the protein. any ideas would be cool. :)

I make a diet jelly and let it cool down to room temperature. Then I mix a couple of spoons of protein powder in with a cake mixer and put in the fridge. It sets quite well, but you have to eat it within 24 to 36 hours or it starts to separate out. DON'T mix casein in while the water is hot, the resulting mess will put you off protein powder for life.

Make a custard with artificial sweetener and berries.

Eggs + milk + sugar + vanilla essence = custard (or sweet scrambled eggs if you have too much egg and not enough milk)

I have it every morning for breakfast, and it's yum.

You could also possibly make meringues. Decrease the amount of sugar, increase the number of egg whites. I have no idea how that would turn out, but possibly something to consider. Personally I'm a huge fan of mixed nuts, almonds, walnuts, brazil nuts and cashews mainly. I have 10-15 every night before I go to bed, never get hungry before I fall asleep.

Wikipedia

Nuts contain the all important fatty acids, linoleic and linolenic acids, which are critical for growth, physical and mental development, healthy hair and skin, blood pressure control, immunological responses and blood clotting. In addition, the fats in nuts for the most part are unsaturated fats, particularly monounsaturated fats. This type does not elevate blood cholesterol levels like saturated fats.

Furthermore nuts supply one of the best natural sources of vitamins E and B2 (riboflavin, an antioxidant), and are rich in protein, folate, fiber, and essential minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and selenium

What can I say, I just love nuts. :pfft:

I've posted a few in the recipes thread, but can't be arsed hunting for them, so here they are again.

Jelly fluff

Make up 1 pack of WW jelly. Once set, mix in 2 serves choc PP and 250g tub of cottage cheese. Blend well. makes 2 serves.

New trick is to allow the jelly to only partly set, in 2 lots, then chuck it in the magic bullet with the other ingredients. Comes out like instant pudding once set.

PB & egg pancakes

60g PB

2 eggs

1 serve PP

wee dribble of water

1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)

1 slice cheese

Nuke the PB til gooey (bout 2 min). Beat in the eggs. Add PP. I found you really need to use a magic bullet or similar, if you try to do it with a fork it doesn't mix well. Add a little water as necessary to get it to a batter-ish consistency.

Pour half into a pan on medium heat. Cook one side and flip. Once done remove from heat and repeat with the other half of the mixture. Place slice of cheese between the two pancakes.

Each one should take no more than 2 minutes total to cook. The longer they're cooked, the more dense and dry they will become.

Chocolate pancake

1 Serve PP

1 tsp Baking Powder

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp (ish) Peanut Butter

3.5 Tsp water

Into the magic bullet, then cook over medium-high heat in a little butter. About 2 minutes on the first side, 1 on the other.

Top with lo-carb raspberry mousse

300ml cream

1 pack WW raspberry jelly

Whip til firm

makes enough for 3 serves and only adds 3g carb to the dish

The mousse also makes a good dessert on its own. Can also be made with choc protein powder instead of the gelatin, but it takes a bit more beating.

Cheeecake

1 tub of Cream cheese (or philadelphia) warmed slightly to soften, protein powder, 1 packet of WW jelly powder made to instructions. Blend it all well. Make a base of ground almonds and melted butter.

Or you can use the filling as another type of mousse.

Choc omellette (pinched from Mark Lobliner)

4 eggs, serve of choc PP, 1/4 cup black coffee, blend, nuke. I usually do it for 1 min, stir with a fork, 30 sec, stir, 30 sec, stir, then 15 sec at a time till it's stiff but fluffy. For a bit of variation, alter the strength of the coffee, add PB, or add cinnamon.

Sludge (Mark again)

2Tbsp PB, 1 serve choc PP, and enough water to allow it to be stirred into a "sludge" (see what I did there). Into the freezer for 30 min. Scoff. Apparently some people like to throw in a few frozen berries for added taste, but I've never gotten around to trying that one. This recipe has something of a cult following on this site.

I'm sure there are others that I play around with, and use regularly, but it's late, I'm tired, so that'll have to do you for now.
