GetStrength - UPDATE, installed and vid uploaded.

Amazingly I got a call from GetStrength a couple of days ago to come out and see it again. Bowled on out with a member who works nearby. Despite me believing it would never work in its current configuration Kevin has managed it to get 95% of what I wanted. He chopped the uprights down so it will work with a flat bench and redid the cantilever point 8 times till it works automatically in all but the lowest positions. At its lowest setting it won't stay in the ready position, but that's not really a problem since you can pull the uprights forward with little effort and as soon as the dumb bells are raised it flops out of the way. At higher positions it stays put with less than 10kg on it.

He's put a huge amount of work into it (like over 100 hours), so has lost a lot of money on it, but hopefully will sell a few more. It's the perfect bit of kit for a home gym since you will be able to do a huge variety of exercises on it without needing a partner.

I've now signed off on it so it's off to be power coated and should be installed in the Club at the end of next week. I'll post a vid of it in action once it's installed.

  • 2 weeks later...

Had a chance today to get together with a member here and put the auto spot machine through its paces. Tried all the usual stuff and it worked perfectly. My tame strongman model even came up with a novel way of using it for a barbell shoulder press that he's struggled with in the past.

But without further ado I give you the finished product and my one and only contribution to advancing civilization...

It's taken a little longer than expected but the wait has been worth it. Currently it's a one off. But I can see it being popular in home setups and the odd commercial club.

It looks like you got it about right there  Very adaptable machine.

95% of what I wanted so can't complain. Shoot me a pm when you want to come out for the bench. Just had a look at it, it's missing one pin for adjusting the height of the uprights - Fitness works will have a one.

Ian, I used the spotter today for the first time and really liked it :)

I even got a little lazy and put the weights onto it that i could lift up myself - just so as I was conserving my energy for the following exercises (well, thats how I justified it to myself anyway!)

I used it for shoulder press, so will give chest press a go next week.

I've always struggled, when increasing my weights, to get the weight into position to begin the set, and this has solved that problem - good stuff!

cheers, ali

Thanks for the feed back Ali, quite a few members who have suffered injuries in the past are now telling me they're able to perform exercises previously off-limits. I'm working on designing another machine to help members train harder and safer....
