3 Weeks Off Training

Beef

Recommended Posts

I'm about to take 3 weeks off as I'm going overseas. Just wondering how much I need to be eating to maintain muscle mass over that 3 week period.

I'll be pretty sedentary so I won't need as many calories as I normally do. Protein-wise, I may have to eat a "normal" diet for the time I'm away. Since I won't be training, I won't be needing to repair muscle, but not sure how much I need for maintenance.

cheers for your help :D

Without training you won't maintain your strength/muscle mass no matter what you eat. Just keep your cals up - you won't need much protein or carbs specifically because your muscles aren't being trained. Best option would be to keep up the same diet, drop the carbs a little (you won't get as hungry) and do some bodyweight exercises (chins and pressups).

cheers Jigga, probably won't do any bodyweight stuff as the body is probably due for a rest anyway. it's been over a year since I've taken more than a couple weeks off training. Hopefully I won't lose much muscle mass in the 3 weeks I'm taking off

Depending on where you're going, watch serving size and the amount of carbs.... and don't be bashful about telling folks exactly what you want.

If you wanted to work out cals, establish your maintenance calorie load and stuff, you could do worse than read through this thread

thanks TFB. not too worried about getting extra cals- in fact, wouldnt mind getting the extra cals at this stage. I just won't be eating nearly as much protein as I normally would while training regularly :D

Where you going?

I'm going to Canada. I have a lot of family over there so I'm making the most of the break between Uni semesters here to go soak up some sun in the North American summer!
