Clean & Press

Recommended Posts

Do you think the Clean & Press (the way it is done in the vid i.e not from the floor) is an effective movement to strengthen my Rotator Cuff? I'm trying to kill 2 birds with one stone - hit my RC and Anterior Delt rather than doing Military Press + YTWL or something. Does anyone on here feel this movement really hammers your RC or does the momentum when you hoist it up take the resistance out of the external rotation at the shoulder joint?

Cheers

Be very careful if you have RC issues already, yes done right it will work the rotators but if you have any laxicity in the GH joint and your form slips even a lil they will get raped (first hand experience  )

Yeah I think you would be entering very dangerous territory in relying on a hanging clean and press. These sort of movements really rely on force production from your prime movers, any imperfection could lead to more harm than good on r.cuff. very good exercise though

I would imagine that hang cleans and presses would exarcerbate any RC issues. I know in my own experience I lay right off them when I am feeling pain in that area. As everyone has said if your form is just a tiny bit out you can do even more damage.

Yeah currently I do RC work twice a week on Chest and Delt day. I guess the RC is different in that you can't overload it. I'm a little unsure how frequently you should train it too since it doesn't really get sore. Is 10 sets a week + a couple sets of shoulder dislocations before each workout too much? I may still consider doing C&P but I'll play around with baby weights until I get the form down.

Thanks for all the help.

Agree with the others RE: dangerous ground using a hanging clean and press if you've already got RC problems.

Try adding in a cuban press to rehab your RC and hit anterior delts. I found the cuban press very useful for my shoulders as I've had surgery on both shoulders due to dislocations.

Hope this helps. All the best.

Yeah I have been super-setting Lateral Raises with DB Cuban Press as part of my RC rehab. You can't really load Cuban Press in terms of using a weight which is hard to press over your head. That's what lead me to Clean & Press actually. Cheers Dan.
