ok i have an interesting perspective for you all to ponder, its not my opinion just someting to put into the mix and stir up the conversation a little (sorry its a bvit of a threed hijack but perhaps the title of the thred shoud change :) )

if the miss new New Zealand pagent decided to extend its class range to hold a MR New Zealand, and said that muscularity was a key judging point would you compete? y/n?

NO :naughty:

ok what if there was good coin on offer ?

the entertainment value for the audeance is crutial to a show, each and every competiter should understand that as well as being a comp, it is also a show and they are the entertainers, the more entertaining the more claps and wolf wistles, the more likely that its a great show for all, i relly enjoyed the fact that evryone in the audeance (including the judges) got up and did the front double biceps at the CHCH GP it is great to see the audeance haveing fun too :)

in regards to the inclusion of glamour/fitness/bikini/sports model etc int "BodyBuilding" shows, well you will notice that the majority of the shows and events have amended thier titeles to inclued fitness etc, its a world wide trend and we should embrace that, they are not body builders however there isnt really anywhwere for the bikini girls to compete at a serious level with set international rules, car shows comps and sports bar T&A comps are usualy assosiated with sleze and T&A and have no set guidelines as to how the competiters are judged, so to give these girls a fair playing feild and structure as well as oportunity to take compeating to a higher level is win win for everone (except of course those diehards that are reluctant to move with the times)

looking forward to seeing Megan Curry (winner Glamour NABBA/WFF Chch GPand a trip to the Austrlian Show) on stage in melbourne along with the rest competeing over there :)

it is tough, but the fact they coming into the realm of bodybuilding should make it even tougher, and raise the bar. We'll see this as we see more competitors enter in these classes, and simply hot chicks with big tits won't win on the day (they can stick to their Drag Day Wet T-Shirt Contests :pfft: ). tyt abs, glutes, good legs, calves, and back, and presentaion will all play a part in the total package. The ones that DO work hard in the gym in off season to bring these areas up and DIET precomp to show em off wil shine through :)

My belief in the past was that there was no place for Bikini Girls in a Bodybuilding Competition. However, since I have been involved in organising the NABBA WFF shows in NZ I have seen a much different way of viewing competitors in this category. Typically these girls are looking at ongoing careers in the Fitness Industry as Sports Models & Fitness Models. They do train in gyms but probably not to the extent that a Figure or Physique competitor would. However, this class does provide for a platform to enter into a BBing Federation & then move into WFF Athletic Figure or Fitness divisions & then onto NABBA divisions if real serious. This is an area that we see being very important to the ongoing viability of BBing in NZ & around the World.

YOUR GOING SOFT!!! LOL BUT i totally agree with you. i was pretty anti the bikini /glamour classes. But like everything BBing must evolve. Gone are the days of 120+ competitors at our regional shows (that was the days before figure etc) for the sport to survive we must change with the times and bikini/glamour is part of that change. my 1st yr. there were 16 jnr men in my class, now we are lucky to have 3. the only way we can have good shows is to have more people on stage...... more bums on seats....... and shows that are capturing a bigger market. like figure 15 odd yrs. ago now its time for the bikini/glamour to help pull more people to our sport and shows.

That sort of is the truth. if i had a show that had 10-15 good athletes in every class we purely wouldn't have enough room for Bikini. The 1st figure in NZFBB looked like Bikini and then it has slowly grown to what it is now.

If you took a lot of the shows in NZ and removed the Figure section we would have about a handful of competitors. 15-20 yrs. ago we didn't have figure and the shows held their own. Well shock horror many of our shows are not holding there own so just like Coke introduced Diet Coke and then Coke Zero to meet the demands of the market, we need to introduce more products to our arsenal.

and i know some Boyz don't like to look at girls in bikinis, but in this day in age its ok jimjim people are much more open to that sort of lifestyle so relax   just kidding! lol

how did you know!! :shifty:

It suprises me that there are less people competing these days with gyms and weight training becoming more mainstream. I guess back in the day there when you were a young man :pfft: there was only the one federation in NZ?

I realise that bikini is here and more than likely here to stay but it just seems like bodybuilding is getting watered down.

Yes but why are more people going to the gym and turning to weights. its to improve their quality of life and are being educated that some resistance training will help in this. 20yrs ago you had 2 types of people going to the gym. Cardio junkies to do jazzagetics in their pink leg warmers (thats how mike kingsnorth started) and guys and girls wanting to become more muscular that eventually would be talked into doing a show.

Walk into most gyms now and its a massive cross section of people and most look at bodybuilders with there nosies screwed up saying "yuk who wants to look like that" :pfft:

AND IM STILL A YOUNG MAN THANKYOU!!!! just the hairline isn't so young!

Not too hysterical a visual,

Everyone else just thought he was the Ultimate Worryer

Sadly Mike also in discovering himself went through a Mr T phase, a Milli Vanilli phase, and even auditioned for a Boy Band!

Its about time you two fought it out on the stage

we prefer the dancefloor, Mike D is big on the jump splits, I knee slide - we both come last in that competition.

You both should make a lovely couple :pfft: MikeD's jump splits might have improved now that he's a kick boxer
