anyone know of a cheap brand of egg white protein? i'm avoiding whey but wanting to find an alternative. cheers :)

Like eggcel? http://www.eggcel.co.nz/

I have had the powder before it's pretty good in oats, it's not really cheap prolly the same price as isolate. TFB used the frozen liquid stuff and I have only heard good things about it.

any reason why you are avoiding whey?

it gives me huge facial breakouts :shifty:

i know other people who suffer from the same problem. there's a correlation between whey and acne, so i'm trying to stay off it.

I've only used the liquid, it worked out roughly the same as supermarket-bought eggs, but not as cheap as from some of the wholesalers or the mad butcher.

But, the liquid was convenient, easy, and easy to flavour with eg Weight-watchers jelly crystals.

where do you buy the liquid from?

i just buy trays of eggs at the local vege shop and seperate the yolks from the whites my self.. takes about 1 minute to do 5 eggs for breakfast when you get the hang of it.

are there any other reasons for using egg whites for protein? is it a preference or something?

its must be very expensive unless you work on an chicken farm

your average 50 gram egg contains 4.5 grams of protein in the egg white. the average size 7 egg is more like 56g-61g, so if you give a little extra and say each egg has an average of 5g of protein in the egg white pulp times a tray of 30 eggs thats 150g of protein for an average cost of 7 dollars.

your average meat cut of .25g/100 is cheaper than egg whites if your concerned about the fat, your lean cuts are even more economical for $ per g.

but as a direct comparison whey vs egg white pulp it seems pretty ludicrous. if your buying commercial protein powder you could get the same amount of protein for like a couple dollars??

i started this thread because i'm looking for alternatives to whey. i'm not saying that egg white protein is more cost efficient, because it's not.

The only egg white powder I know of is the eggcel brand. It tastes like arse, mixes all lumpy unless you have a blender and is generally pretty foul.

However it has pretty much zero carbs and fat so is great for doing a cut and I will use it again.
