old fella - Thread Wrap Up

Spec check this morning and all is well. Took my blood pressure as well and it's far more realistic than the docs.

BP - 143/87

BF - 23%. This is down from 28% (5 weeks ago) and for my age group. If I go to the 20-30 age group its 16%.

Waist - 5cm drop

Arms - biggest they've ever been :)

Quads - biggest they've ever been :)

The same guy has been measuring me since around July last year.

My appetite has come back. No problem sculling all the food yesterday. Surprised it came back so quickly. Around 24hrs. Starting to feel normal again, so hopefully the enthusiasm will be back for cardio. On the spin bike in the mornings so aches in my knees and achilles are going.

Have done something to my upper left arm. Somewhere between the bicep and delt. Almost like tennis elbow but higher up. Not bullet proof anymore - there's gotta be something hurting somewhere.

some awesome going there dude. Are you still just using .5ml twice a week and 10mg of dbol every day?

.75ml teste twice a week and 1 x 25mg Proviron ED. Dropped the dbol.

Just took a Turbo and going for some cardio in the frost. See how the legs hold out, and how well breakfast goes down afterwards.

We'll check measurements again in 2 weeks to see whether the changes keep occurring. That's roughly my 8 weeks to decision time for competing.

End of week 6.

Appetite is back, have no issues with food now. Feel like a new person. Back on turbos again with no negative side affects. Definitely help on big days.

Feel like I'm having male menopause. Get very red in the face a during the day, and under exertion at the gym. May need to cut back to .5ml instead of .75ml test. (Comments?)

Have changed the exercises I do quite dramatically this week and will follow it for another 5 weeks. Definitely worked as everything above the waist aches.

4 day split, but the 5th day is devoted to abs. Last night 5 sets of kneeling pull downs (cable), going down the stack and adding on the extra plates. 4 sets incline situps beginning with a 10kg finishing 2 sets with a 20kg. 3 sets twists on the incline. Didn't do hanging leg raise as my lats and shoulders are still hurting.

Diet

M1 Oats, banana, 2 scoops PP

M2, M3, M4 Combo of chicken, tuna, carrots, beans, broccoli and kumara.

M5 post workout 2 scoops PP

M6 Fish/Steak veges

M7 2 scoops PP

Supps OTC

Cardiac aspirin, multi vit, vit D, Omega 3, liver support.

Found a whole jar of CLA so taking them 3 times a day and some Acetyl L Carnitine - one in the morning.

Only an oily scalp and carrying a bit of water around the lower leg. That's it so far. On the plus side the"other"oldfella is doing ok. :pfft:

Always a plus! how about his "luggage"

I'll have to ask the missus. She'll know. That's her dept.

Thanks guys.

Need to work on that delicate balance of BF reduction and muscle retention.

Truest quote around right there looking good mate use the younger scale for BF measurements as you aint no 23%BF.

As far as dropping your test if the only sides is red face and feeling flushed keep the dose thats only a minor thing isnt it???

Hi, your photos look good. Tell me? How many carbs are you taking per day. Also regarding the bf test. I am also measuring 22% but the gym trainer is getting it wrong as my friend who does many comps says I am less than that. He says about 12%.Why does one use a younger chart? Is it a more accurate measure?

I think anyone who is consistently training like old fella is should be tested as a younger athlete would.....He should be gauged the same as me for instance as I dont see what age has to do with it???Would be interested in a good explanation of this myself.

When you use the skinfold to test bodyfat, the reason they use the age grouping is the consideration of the loss of collagen and skin hydration, as we age our skin gets thiner and therfore the differences in the age groups.

However i personally dont think the difference is that much!

Carbs - cup of rolled oats for breakfast and a med kumara split over M1-M3.

I'm not really worried how BF measured as long as it drops. Bobsta is right, there are criteria to take into consideration for age. Sorry, don't have the factual reasons. Might try and find out.

Recently took part in a Research Study advertised on here. When qualifying the initial BF check came out at 16% using BIA Scales, even though I knew I was around 23%. Qualification was 20% or less.

Part of it was a DEXA scan. The result for BF on this was 24%. My guy measured me with calipers a week later at 23% so I'm happy with the caliper measurements and the way he does it. Should also add they took age into consideration.

The results also said for 175cm and 86kgs I'm Overweight. The BMI scale for Overweight is 25-30, and I was 29.1. So I'm almost a fat lazy bastard. :pfft:

Probably doesn't answer the age part of BF testing, but a couple clips from some websites.

_________________________________________________

Why do the equations include age? By including age the equations attempt to compensate for the fact that as your body ages it begins to lose lean muscle, retain intra-abdominal fat, and lose bone density. These things are not measurable with your body fat calipers. The age compensation included within the equations is based on normal people, not active trainers. Physical activity and especially strength training will negate the age part of the equation.

So, if you are in superior shape you will likely get a more accurate body fat percentage by just claiming to be 20 (or 21 if you still want to buy alcohol) when you do your body fat calculations.

________________________________________________

For men:

For men up to about the age of 30, 9-15% is good, from age 30 to 50, 11-17% is a good range, and from age 50 and up, 12 to 19%. A person should try to stay at or below the upper limits given, and a person near the lower limit would be described as lean.

___________________________________________________

There are a few reasons why percent body fat measurement may not be ideal: The older you are, the less likely the results are to be accurate since fat distribution changes as we age. Caliper measurement is best for those under the age of 55, though it can become less accurate by your 40s.

Hey, thanks all for taking the time to reply to my questions. I train hard for 5 days per week with weights and am upping my cardio as hope to go in the Club Physical Comp in Sept. Good luck O.f with your training and watch the injuries. They seem to be my constant companion these days.
