Training after the flu

So I have had the flu for a whole week and now I have a chest infection... and on antibiotics.

So annoying because i know when i get back into training next week my fitness is guna be crap.

My doctor always says you should ease yourself back into it but thats advice for normal people not fit people. I'm very all or nothing so I dont really know how to "ease" myself back into full training.

Any advice?? Or tips to get back to where I was faster?

I'm the same, I never ease back into things. It will probably be quite painful breathing heavily after recovering from a chest infection but that will pass after a few intense sessions. Just get lots of vitamin C, eat healthy and make sure your body has everything it needs to recover as quickly as possible :D

Staying positive is a big thing to consider. The low will pass, as they always do. Just stay hydrated, and listen to your body while recovering.

Once you are back on high again, you will bounce back. It may take twice the time off to fully get to where you were before the illness, but as it is a lifestyle, it's one day at a time, and you will be awesome again.

Always got told by my doc no HIIT while having the flu or cold as it puts the body under more then normal strain. He explained he had a fit marathon running die of a heart attack due to running while sick. I on the other hand still train while having flu just limit the aerobics etc.

Just my 2 cents I'm sure someone else will know more.

Jesus if your ill stay at home. If somebody was coughing and their flu germs around me they would be getting told to f*ck off home. A week of rest wont destroy your training. better to take a week off sick instead of it taking 2 or 3 weeks with some sort of infection from pushing your body to hard.

Trust me when you actually have the flu there is no way you can train. Otherwise its just a cold.

I used to be gung ho and would train even if I was just about dead. I retrospect it seems pointless at best, highly detrimental at worst.

When you've got the flu, and you're pretty ill, your workout will be pitiful at best (so very little personal satisfaction if thats what float ya boat). While your body is working on recovering from illness it will not have the same capacity to recover from exercise.

Training is also likely (and its only my opinion, no research done on this one!) to slow your recovery from the infection.

The thing that really sticks is that a viral infection can put the body under a lot of strain particulary the heart. I've never yet done a workout worth dying for! :grin:

My position on this one is if you are only mildly sick, i.e. a headcold etc, go do your workout but dont expect miracles, although I've had some blinders when I've been ill. However if you're actually pretty crook you're better off worrying about getting better, eat & rest up.

Im sick again. Grrr I think i have man flu (coz we all know thats the most severe kinda flu you can get :nod: ). God this sux. Bet I'll get another chest infection too. Seems like I always do coz of my asthma.

All Ive eaten today is iceblocks.

What else can I do...

Every-time you take antibiotics you kill of good bacteria within your intestines upsetting the balance of your intestinal terrain, this may leave you more prone to yeast infections,Leaky gut syndrome and the likes. You may be doing this all-ready but I'd strongly recommend a good quality probiotic supplement.
