NZBB Challenge 2010 - any interest?

How many people would be interested in doing the NZBB Challenge this year?

The Challenge is an online competition we've run for the last few years to get people motivated about bodybuilding and improving their physique. The competitors have to post Before, Middle and After photos, and there are usually some pretty decent prizes at stake.

Previously the Challenge has lasted 20 weeks from start to finish, but I'm thinking about making it a bit shorter this year. We want to allow time for some dramatic changes in physique, but no time to slack off.

To give you an idea of the format, here's the 2009 Challenge:

Hmm, depends what date it starts, but I could be keen if it's post-Rugby season (which I think would be unlikely to suit most others here :pfft:).

I'll be doing a cut again this year, but it won't be as dramatic as last year because I'm in a much better starting state than I was then, so may look to pack on some size and then cut after Rugby. We'll see :)

Not that I'll be doing this...

But I think there should be a best cut and best bulk prize. Previously the prizes seem to be going to the people who have shed lots of weight with the obvious aesthetic results. But that's only half the game in bodybuilding! Bulking in the timeframe may not produce the dramatic effect, but it should still be rewarded.

I could be interested if the start date wasnt to soon.

Im prob a few weeks of hitting 115kg @ 18% bf @1.75m so wouldnt really want to start cutting till the 115kg is hit.

Will there be classes ie First timers & previously shown or age classes???

I'm a bit like drizzt in that I also plan to cut this year, and I have a definite timeframe in mind to coincide with my holiday and seeing friends I haven't seen in 5 years and wanting to be looking what I consider to be my best at that time.

If the timing of the NZBB challenge fit in more or less with my own timeframe I'd probably participate, but if not then I wouldn't, as I don't want to be dicking around too much with dieting more than once in a year at the expense of growing hulking great muscles :pfft:

I'm very interested in this. I briefly scanned the posts though and all some people are talking about is cutting. I thought it was most improved... Cutting is aesthetic BS IMO, it effectively turns a bodybuilding competition in to a dieting competion - yawn.

Also with respect to the people who have set specific dates they want to be a certain weight and BF% come on... There will never be a competion if it has to fit with every individuals plan.

Bring it on I say.

yeh I reckon it should be shorter and just post before and afters. For a more dramatic effect 8) Middle pics ruin the surprise

I like.

You should compete?

Also, I think you can still get some pretty dramatic results bulking-wise over a 5 month period??

Rhodestown award sounds awesome but by introducing too many categories I can see the prizes becoming less significant.

You could not split up gender (just take into account the difference between the sexes) and then have a best bulk and best cut award

or

Split into male/female and just have a most improved award taking into account that someone soley cutting is simply revealing muscle that's already there.

I'd more than likely put my hand up for this, nothing like a bit of competition to get the juices flowing eh. I agree with Peachy re the before and after, without the "in-between". As for the dates, the way I figure it, the contest is for the best improvement, not necessarily best cut. If the comp dates span the end of a bulk and the beginning of a cut, you're still going to show improvement, ie you'll be a bit bigger and a bit leaner, rather than just being a lot leaner. I guess what I mean is that everyone has their own agenda with dates for a cut etc, and they're all going to be different. I say Pseud should just pick a date, and we use that time to make the best improvement we can, whether that's bulking, cutting, a combination of both, or whatever blows your skirt up.

Dates and timing

We usually try to time it so the After set coincides with the beginning of summer. That way those that want to get their beach bodies ready have an extra incentive! I haven't worked out the dates yet, but I was thinking maybe 14 weeks this time round. What do you all reckon?

To middle or not to middle

There's a few reasons to keep the middle set:

1) It gives the newbies another chance to ask for help and correct their posing.

2) It keeps people on track - 20 weeks (or even 14) is a long time, so splitting it up keeps people accountable and motivated.

3) It gives our lovely sponsors more exposure.

Bulk vs Cut

When it was 20 weeks, that gave enough time for a bulk and a cut. If it's shorter that may be more difficult, but still not impossible. I think you should be cut to win Best Overall - this is a bodybuilding competition, after all! But the Most Improved prize was always meant to include skinny buggers who packed on quality size, not just people who got ripped. We've never split up the genders - just had those two awards, and I think it's better that way. As Jigga said, it keeps the prizes decent.
