I drink loads of water each day but sometimes feel the need for a diet coke/pepsi max. Are these ok or could they be doing more harm than good??

Yep, the odd Zero wouldn't hurt your training goals, the artificial sweeteners are dodgy in higher doses tho.. link

go for gold, just don't consume excessively (just like any other food/drink)

Spoil yourself and have a full sugar coke!!

Here are some of the ingredients in Coke Zero.

Food acid 338 - aka "Phosphoric Acid" (Also used for rust removal!)

Food acid 331 - aka "Sodium Citrates" (Also used in photography and as an anticoagulant of blood stored for transfusion!)

Flavour Sweetener 951 - aka "Asapartame" There are plenty of links on Aspartame all over the interweb.

Worth thinking about.
