Morning or Night?

Just curious to know if anyone has an opinion regarding the best time of day for workouts?

Is a late night session, only a short time before sleeping, a bad thing?

and/or

If I'm not a morning person (and trust me, I'm not), will pushing myself to get out of bed at 5am do me more harm than good?

Thanks!

at the end of the day, any exercise is good.

whenever is best for you, is best for you.

Word.

It's all up to the individual, I train in the evenings because I can go heaviest after a good day of eating, others will train in the morning beause their at the best first thing.

Regarding cardio though, cardio is best done first thing in the morning before any food is eaten.

:ditto: But, adjust your diet to suit... you're not necessarily going to see the best results if you're working out late in the evening, then coming home and having the bulk of your carbs and protein right before you go to sleep....

Thanks guys

I knew it would be a matter of opinion, and what suits you, but being a complete newbie ...

I understood that what you eat is important, but the concept of timing when you eat is something I had not even considered ... More to research and learn :)

Posted on 14 Apr 2010 05:50 am, I see. I don't think my clock goes that early.

Personally, I don't have a problem with eating a big meal straight before bed. I even dieted down for a comp that way. Arguably, it's the best possible thing to do - we know most growth happens while you sleep, so it makes sense to give your body the raw materials it needs to grow before you hit the sack.

ThePman and Rose have a better handle on this than I do, but here's my 2c worth.... I'm not arguing against having a big meal before bed... yes, sleep is a protracted fast and if the muscles aren't fed, catabolism will occur... but I'm unconvinced that it should be really really big.

If, for arguments sake, someone works out from 7-8 pm or so, then comes home, has a decent feed of protein and carbs to harness the open anabolic window resulting from the workout, a second big feed at midnight, of slow-digesting protein, would be better than a big serve of fast-digesting carbs, wouldn't it?

In short, it's all about the composition of meals relative to workout timing, sleep, isn't it?

But, of course, all this varies from one individual to another - and changes with the compromises we all have to make. The theory's all well and good, IF you can stick to it.
