Food is probably the most critical thing you need to get right when it comes to bulking. If you sort out your eating plan (you mentioned you hadn't been consistent) you will start making gains immediately. I still haven't mastered the art of eating but when I was on top of it I was gaining about a kilo a week. Training hard is easy, eating well isn't. If you take what I'm saying seriously you will hit/exceed 85kg in no time. As for being cut at that weight I would say the easiest approach would be to bulk to 90-95kg and then slowly lean up. Good luck.

EAT EAT EAT EAT AND LIFT SUPER HEAVY COMPOUNED LIFTS STAY OFF THE FUCKEN MACHINES

TRAIN INSANE OR REMAIN THE FUCKEN SAME

\:D/ Right on the money bro. At that size I wouldnt even worry about being cut. You cant flex bone :pfft: Last year I was in the exact same position as you 6" 70kg, I ate big and focused on squat bench and deadlift and by the end of the year I was sitting around 105kg. Havent done a full blown cut yet probally never will but I would warrant a gues that I could be around 90@10%bf

About 3 years ago when Matt Jones was still in NZ he stayed at my place for a few months.

He was 19 at the time and his bulking diet was pretty simple.

Every night he would get home and cook a kilo of cheap mince, a heap of rice and about half a kilo of mixed veges, throw the whole lot in a plastic container and that would be his food for the next day.

Still makes me laugh when i think about it, my whole house ended up smelling like cooked mince.

To eat that every day is hard work, but he did it for weeks on end :)

When I first started training a standard issue dinner meal after training was 4 - 5 large boiled potaoes with a whole tub of sour cream and a tin of watties chilli beans. my mates still give me shit for it :pfft: 2-3 nights per week no worries at all.

Would also regularly eat a loaf of bread and a roast chicken for lunch  ... them were the days

Well said, the hardest part is eating, not so much the training.

It's hard to look stocky under 95kg on a 6'1" frame, imo. I am 6'2" and 95kg and to me, it's still not enough. As said already; eat heaps, train heavy with compund routines, free weights

Very hard to look stocky at that hieght, aim for 100 kgs.

(tinytraps) Awesome progress bro...I'm in the bulking process atm standing 6ft at 89 kgs after a yr and a bit, but 105 is my ideal (I'm also a hard gainer)...Am going to just focus on those compound workouts. Would you have any tips on the eating side of things??

Legend. Exact same diet as me.

Didn't read he was 6ft 1, 85kg wouldn't look stocky at all. I'm 6ft and felt skinny when I was 97kg. I say bulk to 110 and shred to 100 :P

Hey AAO eat everything and anything. Keep the majority of your food from clean protein and carb sources, but dont be afraid to down a cheeseburger(or ten :pfft: ) to bump up the calories. Once you cant eat anymore, down a protein shake or good ol fashioned milk.

There is no such thing as “firming and toning.” There is only stronger and weaker...

For weight-gaining purposes, "eating clean" is not a useful concept. Big Macs are....

Sup, i was (sorta still am) in your position and realised that my diet was holding me back soooo much. Eggs, oats, milk, and a mass gainer for easily getting the calories up has made such a difference for me as well as eating more meat and generally just eating more as everyone is saying, gained approx 5kg in 2months and still going so make sure you take food just as seriously as the workout.

Hi guys. New to the forums.

I'm a newbie to bodybuilding aswell. How do you guys workout exactly how much food you need to eat everyday. My weight now is 82kg so im not sure how much food i have to take in.

I haven't started anything yet and wanted to do some research on a few things before i start weight training.

My concerns are :

1. Amount of food i need to eat so as to not over-eat and put on fat.

2. What are compound exercises ?

3. How to lift to gain muscle and not strength.

Thanks in advance

1. Dude, if you are training hard enough, you wont put on a big gut. Sure, you will get some fat deposits, but it not the beer belly. Training hard ensures the muscle rapes most of what you eat.

2. Compound exercises use major muscle groups, and does not isolate any one muscle.

3. You can only get stronger or weaker (as mentioned earlier). Anyhow, being buff is only half the awesomeness, being strong gives you the warm fuzzys. You have to love being stronger than the average 'you'.

How tall are you, and how old? 82kgs can mean a lot of things depending on your frame.
