Gillies Ave gym?

Hi,

I'm looking for a new gym, and Gillies Ave gym has been mentioned here a few times. I live pretty close to there, so am trying to track it down.

I can't find it in yellow.co.nz, and google turns up nothing (except for the badminton/table tennis club). Has it closed down or something?

Can anyone tell me if that gym still exists, and if yes, how can I find them online and contact them?

Thanks

Cameron

Hi Cameron,

Gillies Ave gym is predominantly used by a small group of competitive weightlifters / powerlifters - are you interested in either of these disiplines? If so this gym would be a good environment for you. Can flick you on a contact number if need be.

Basically I'm a guy who used to play alot of Aussie Rules as a teenager. Since I gave up and started sitting at a desk all day, I have lost way too much muscle ... I'm skinny guy who needs to put on some weight.

So, no is the answer.

But I'd see it as a benefit to be around a group of people who are trying/being professional about the sport. It's kinda like if you hang around with rich people; you learn how to be rich. If you hang around with poor people, you don't learn squat.

Basically, at this stage I'm just keen to check the place out.

Gillies great for old school weightlifters and powerlifters into LP / Sheiko etc. Probably less so if you're a guy who needs variety in your workouts (then Netfitt as mentioned).

Take the opportunity to go see Wookie and do a session at Gillies - some love it, some hate it. Its that kind of place.

The history there is second to none tho... read the boards at the back for a who's who of NZL weightlifting.
