Over training?

Hello.

Reading through the "newbie mistakes" thread, alot of people are bringing up "over training". What are the symtoms/signs of over training? What is the ideal amount of rest? How often should each muscle group be trained?

Thanks.

Andy.

Chronic fatigue, decreasing strength&performance, constant sorenes/aches/pains, poor recovery, decreased motivation and enthusiasm...

True overtraining is very very difficult to actually reach and its a long way back (serveral months) for anyone who actually reaches this stage. Generally its not overtraining which people get, its overreaching and can be easily fixed with a week or two of rest.

Almost all of the time its not too much training which is the cause rather inadequate nutrition and insufficient rest.

tendonitis...

This. You have to be really careful when it comes to over training, tendontis may sound like a bit of a joke, but if you ignore it and it develops into a fully fledged cronic condition, it can lead to all sorts of nastyness, taking months to fully repair or worse contributing to something like tendon rupture =/
