Thanks Pman. I totally agree with you.

Never been a fan of simple carbs for spiking and I take a good and plentiful protein source and weight training foregranted. That's the way though. Good food and a good workout.

I'm still out on an ideal BF% creating increased anabolism. It's more about good food and good weight training for sure.

The more responses I read, the more I realize that people have no idea what the word "optimal" means.

Pman, most people lack your scientific background. Nik, perhaps less so than others given that he's studying grape growing and it's associated science or what have you at uni.

So rather than expect it of people, how about taking the time to explain things?

Sorry, should have read you post a little better. In the context of anabolism I assumed that more is better but maybe I'm wrong again.

Whether it's optimal or maximal or what ever adjective of similar meaning doesn't concern me; it is semantical. Just the fact that it is either of these at a specific BF%.

Well I kinda did, but:

"Optimal" is synonymous with "ideal", which is to say, the best possibility from a given set of circumstances.

So when we say there's an ideal BF% for bulking, that doesn't mean you *can't* gain muscle outside that zone. It just means that the conditions of gain won't be as favorable as they could be. If you're too lean, then you'll be adding more fat than you would otherwise. If you're too fat, it becomes harder to add tissue of any kind.

Note that neither condition implies that you *can't* or *won't* "be anabolic" or gain muscle or anything else, just because you're not in that optimal zone. It just means the conditions for gaining aren't ideal.

damn, i read the title of the thread and came here expecting a punchline to a joke =/

Roses was good. F that cat looks pissed. HAHA!

Never discredited you Pman or said one can't or won't be anabolic outside of your quoted BF% range; I'm just not sure there is an 'ideal' (to use your own synonym) or maximal (another synonym) specific BF% (or range) for anabolism (within a 'normal' BF%).

But opinions are just like ass holes, everyone thinks everyone elses stinks.

Have a good week.

why would you have slow acting carbs post workout...not only will that slow your digestive/hormonal metabolism but it wont allow you to maximize how much you can eat after a workout...when the body is completely depleted anything is going to produce a high in insulin, perhaps not as high as a fast acting carbohydrate but theres nothing you can do about that, thats how the body is programmed to function.

from a diabetic stand point...eating slow acting carbs wouldnt affect how much insulin is produced(that much). there are other important hormones besides insulin, yet people think its like the holy grail :?

if you want, get a glucose meter and monitor your blood glucose to find out how many simple carbs you need post workout.

----------------------------------------------

i think this entire thread is pointless...when are you most anabolic...1)after a hard train 2) in your bed

there is only one other exemption to these two and thats after a big leg workout you go to an all you can eat buffet(gengys) and eat 3 plates of food 1 plate of fries and a plate of dessert.

edit:earlier post about fat % you dont need to be a genius to know if your anorexic or obease your not in the ideal anabolic enviroment. if you feel good thats all that matters...this is as a result of enough sleep, balanced strength, good nutrition and healthy lifestyle.

Ok here's my take on the level of body fat, might upset a few but it is just my opinion! If you're a male and have been lifting weights for a while and cant see your abdominals, you're too fat. Now im not talking about a shreded midsection but it should still be visible. I don't care if you're in off season, power lifter etc... That extra fat is'nt giving you any extra benefits. You may choose to be like that and that's fine but it is not ideal, the excess fat over and above the point you lose complete site of those abdominals can make you insulin ressistant and give you excess estrogen the oposite of what you want
