Yep true, a lot of it is genetic - I can only ever really get down to a 4 pack??? the bottom one just don't show up - but the only way to get "good" abs is by dieting - the only way you'll see your abs is when they aren't covered in fat.

The "abs" are actually just one sheet of muscle, with the separations formed by tendons running over the top. The number and placement of these is determined by genetics.

My favourite picture that illustrates this perfectly is of Dexter Jackson. He (like me) has only a few abs - and no-one could accuse him of having excess body fat in this photo!

I wondered how much Coe's lack of abs was due to the vaccuum pose that was so popular back then, so I went looking for more pics of him. Sure enough, he really does seem to only have a two-pack - not that I ever doubted you, Ash!

Incidentally, while I was there, I stumbled across this photo. Apparently it's Sean Connery (fourth from left), 1953 - so James Bond was a bodybuilder!

Uggghh, sucks to be him :?

Not really - when they were handing out genetics for abs, he must have been AWOL but he got enough of the right genetics to win 5 IFBB Pro contests back in the early 80s as well as the Mr. America, Mr. Universe and Mr. World (ah the good old days).

males store fat around the mid and back.

That's true, males carry their body fat around their middles (apple shape) and female carry it around their hips and thighs (pear shape). Case in point: my partner and I are both around the same bf but my back and abs are leaner than his and his butt and thighs are leaner than mine.

You think so? I would rather have my body anyday than have his, only 2 abs is a joke, abs are an integral part of a good body, to have 2 abs IMO will really detract from your overall appearance.
