hey

um i just finished my bulking phase and now am ready to begin my cut.

But in order to do that i need to reduce my calorie intake from about 3700 to 1500, i searched a lot on this and seemed to get mixed answers. some say do it very slowly over a longer period (taking off 250 cals/per week) others say that 500 per day is fine.

i was just wondering what you guys recommend?

I think you're a bit confused. When they say take off 500/day it means eat 3200cal/day for some period of time. Not day 1 3200, day 2 2700, day 3 2200 etc. In theory a 500cal/day deficit will have you losing 1lb/week, which is about the maximum rate of weight loss you want to go at.

You should find how much you need to maintain your bodyweight and stay there for a few months. If you go straight from a calorie surplus to a deficit you can say buh-bye to any new muscle you've put on. Let your body get used to holding this new amount of muscle before you make any drastic changes. You will find you will lean out a bit at whatever weight you sit at anyway.

Also you should add cardio before you take away food, if you're not doing any already. But again no drastic changes. If you're doing nothing now just do a few hours of walking a week.

:ditto: What Mike said... 500 cal/day, not 500 cal per day every day...

What's your stats (age/height/current weight etc) ?

Wow thanks for the info steak, is this true? that one will loss all the muscle from a bulk if they change from a surplus to a deficit? I didnt know this!! so what is your opinion if im currently doing a bulk and am wanting to cut for beach season? stick to a "maintain calorie diet" for a couple of months before hand and then slowly begin a cut?

thanks again.

im male about 176 cm ( 5 ft 8ish), 78 kgs, Bf% unknown.

and thanks alot for the help

1500 is too low for anything. you can check with a nutritionist or use a calorie calculator but you may find you actually need closer to 2500 for maintenance.

i think for a female who leads a normal life, the recommended caloric intake is 1500.

Your stats are pretty similar to mine and I maintain at around 2,400 and I have a fairly sedentary job.

Maybe you could look at bulking for a while longer? Are you competeing in the near future?
