Horleys Essential Protein.

hey.

today i bought a 450g container of Horleys essential protein.i was wondering a few things about it.

firstly, it costs $30 from new world, is that good value for money?

secondly, its 450g and it says it only has 18 servings in it.does that sound right?

thirdly, it has 27.8g of protein when itsmixed with 250ml of skim milk, is that too much/not enough?

fourthly, are there better alternatives (i dont have much money to spend on it).

and lastly when is the besttime to use it?

personally i would stay away from Horleys products as they tend to be a bit overpriced for what they are. next time you make a purchase try eatme

18 servings sounds about right for 450g.

28 grams when mixed with 250ml of skim milk isn't much protein- that's only about 18g of protein from your product.

regarding timing, most people tend to have their protein powder immediately post-workout but again it's about one's own preferences

My personal 2c worth:

1. $30 for 450g is about $66 per kilo, so it's quite expensive compared to Eat Me brand - Horleys is what's called Whey Concentrate, which Eat Me sells for $46 per kilo;

2. Yep, it's got 18x 25g servings, which is about standard for a whey protein powder. Without knocking Horleys, the actual protein in a 25g serve is only 17g, which is a bit light (65% actual protein - others are more like 75%)- but it's an OK product;

3. At around 28g protein when mixed with milk, that's a common size for a serve, but serving sizes really depend on each individual, and their training routine and objectives. It's a useful way of getting a meaningful extra serve of protein in, although most people now think that the majority of your protein should come from sources like beef, chicken, tuna, eggs etc;

4. If you live where you can get to one of the more specialised stores - Health 2000, Hardys, Xtreme Nutrition, Punch Supplements, you might find better prices on similar products - or a lot of them have internet sales.

5. Like question 3, this one is quite dependent on your current diet, training plan and objectives. But, probably one of the key times when a protein shake is really useful is right after a workout, when the muscles need help to rebuild.

Also, generally the protein at supermarkets is crap in my experiences
