Bikram Yoga

Has anyone tried Bikram Yoga? Did my first class today 90 minutes long, OMG talk about sweat. Im not really a yoga girl but was persuaded to give it a try, might become a weekly visit, I was quite impressed with my flexibility. Hardest part was keeping my arms up, most of those yoga people have long stringy muscles. Apparently it was 40 degrees in the room, had to drive home totally drenched, towel was of no use, could have rung it out after the class.

was it held in a sauna room?

Part of the practice of these groups is to keep the room heated to make you sweat more, to give the impression that the exercise is really working you harder than it really is. Unfortunatly sweating is simply your bodies cooling system and has no extra effect on calorie burning. If flexability is what your after then its probably a good option but don't get taken in by working out in a heated room thinking its a killer workout.

never done bikram - do yoga though and think it is great. I like the idea of sweating to, if you know what i mean. Every now and then I will don the sweat suit and do some high intensity cardio. Dunno if it actually achieves any physical detox effect but it feels like its cleaning me out. I think therefore I am...

Hi Sportsgirl, I wouldn't worry about how you look, I am a sweaty disaster when I leave, however now that i have attended my 4th class, i am getting to know the sequence and definately seeing benefits in all my achy bits.

Give it a go.

I'm sure all the women look like crazy ladies - wild hair and tomato face

I am keen to give it a go... when I find the time to fit in in between powerlifting, strongman and soccer  One day!

i go on and off, i was told that its not particulary designed for cardio but can help overweight people shed pounds but no where as good and a cardio circut in the gym.

I love it for the fact it helps my flexibility and its better than getting a massage! it may hurt when your in there but after a shower and some bubble tea, my muscles feel so good and pain free!

Highly Recommend!!

did you go the one above polmeroys on kilmore st? Ive been thinking about trying it but my boyfriends brother is the instructor and would be embarrassed about being a tomato face and general awkwardness. But I love just ordinary yoga and was going at the gym I go to but they canceled it due to the trainer leaving :(
