Gidday Jake. There's some debate about whether getting bigger can slow you down, but I think the fact that you're actively training for boxing already will ensure your body adapts to be big and fast. Anyway, getting too big is not a problem that will happen overnight - unfortunately! :P

Sup bro, i have followed a similar path to what you are doing. I was once all bout the muay thai, then i picked up BBing whilst finishing off my studies. You'll find that if you want to get a good weight lifting sesh your boxing will suffer, as you will most likely be sore and a your body will want to repair. I tried to do both but it does get exhausting and then your weight training will suffer if you do not get enough rest.

I'd recommend splitting your routines up into 3-4 smaller 40-50 minute sessions and swap the emphasis from your boxing to your weights every so often. Keep your weights quite high intensity, focus on moving the weight as fast as you can with the most weight you can (safely)

In the end its worth it, after all pro boxers incorporate weight training so its gotta be good right? man even bruce lee was on to the weights.

I found that my speed and explosiveness stayed level until i started getting some shadow sparring and bag work in. after this you start to see improvements. my techniques naturally had a had a little more drive behind them and stuff like knees and kicks had a lot more weight in behind them, very usefull.

the only disadvantage i found was that because you'll be training your fast twitch fibers your muscular endurance at full output will be reduced, i can slam the shit out of pads for a minute then i start to lose energy. Mind you that could be my lack of cardio nowdays :3

Good luck with your training and welcome!
