Are baked beans considered clean food?

They have alot of sugar and salt in them don't they? Some of the guys on here use them as a bulking food to get the calories in. I wouldn't consider them a 'healthy' food, can you get low sugar/salt version at all? Or make your own?

IMO dirty's only really dirty when it's dripping in trans fat and HFCS and all those other man-made science experiments you may remember from such movies as My Arse Is Fucken Fat. If the added sugar content doesn't bother you, go hard. They're high in fibre.

Watties do a "lite" baked beans. Not as much sugar & better flavour IMO.

is it reduced salt as well?

True that:

Definition of "Lite":

low fat = sugar

low fat, low sugar = Salt

"Flavour plus" to confuse the minions. (nothing personal musclenz) but overall, have a munch if you want the calories, and certainly, beans are a good source.

I quite like those "Taste of India" Dhal's you can buy at the supermarket (lentils and chickpeas etc). Half a pottle for lunch with my protein for a small hit of carbs and vege protein with my chick or steak or mix it up with some eggs and protein source (chick, steak etc) for a nice frittata / omelette. Alot of Indian spices are good for digestion (ever been blocked up after some Indian takeaway? :pfft: )

Keeps "life on the edge" just that little bit more interesting!

Cheers

good post, as always. personally i'd stay away from baked beans unless you can find a brand that is low-salt & low-sugar

What this post tells me is that people really need to find something a wee bit more important to talk about than bloody bake beans FFS!!

If you want to eat them - eat them - if you don't - don't. High salt low salt, high sugar - blah-de-blah - who really gives a shit!

I agree with Cantygirl

Everything in moderation eh. There are worse things than beans.
