protein intake??

hey guys iam a 98kilo(around 216pounds) and new to bodybuilding, one thing that really bothers me is my nutrition mostly on my protein intake i get one guy telling me i need 200+ grams a day and i got someone else who says i need around 300- 350 grams a day. my diet is consists of 8 meals thats 16 cans of tunas in total and mixed veges i may throw in a potato or 2 with some of my meals in there one can of tuna is 25grams in protein. when i don't have tuna i eat 60 egg whites in a day. my question to you guys is do i need more protein or take less. man 16 cans of tuna a day ain't cheap. ohhh and not to forget i take 2 protein shakes a day which is around 40grams of protein each

Hi,

1-1.5g per pound of bodyweight should be plenty.

Also try mixing it up. Chicken breasts, beef, lamb, pork, prawns, cottage cheese, unsweetened yogurt, fish, salmon, turkey etc. These are excellent sources of protein.

16 cans of tuna a day

Meow! :shock: I'd kill myself. I struggle with 3 x 180g cans a day :puke: Workmate keeps asking me to eat quickly cos he hates the smell, starts meowing at me and scratching at the partition :pfft: Beef all the way.

Re amount, don't overthink it. Keep it basic and just eat a good source of protein at every meal. It ends up being sufficient IMO. Are you dieting or bulking? Eating the calories required for your goals?

this thread is ridiculous. are you taking the piss? 16 cans of tuna a day is excessive (even in bodybuilding terms), not to mention very unhealthy. as for 60 egg whites- that's bs as far as i'm concerned

i was thinking this too...

isnt a can of tuna like 45 grams protein....if you had 16 cans in a day over 8 hours 2 cans per serving thats 90 grams of protein ....digusting and unncessary.

waste effort thinking of a reply...learn to eat propperly. there is such a thing called biological value, if your not taking the piss.

THIS HAS GOT TO BE A JOKE! 16 cans a day plus 60 eggs! what?!! I've been told by many that 1.5 - 2.0 grams per KG is all the protien you need for gaining muscle, the rest is just wasted and turned to fat.

i personally don't think it's turned to fat- unless you're already eating excess calories. but yeah i agree- 1.5-2 g/kilo is plenty

thanks guys for the tips, and i wasn't kidding about the egg whites and the tuna. i do feel nauseated throughout most of the day (especially with the tuna shake). like i said guys iam new to this stuff no guidance wrong information from my peers. saved me a shitload of money.

I would also have one can of tuna a day but 16 cans of tuna that is going a bit overboard.I would hate to see what that dude mercury levels they must be very high.I would suggest having other sources of protein like beef,chicken,eggs,milk,steak etc.

I'd love to say obvious troll is obvious...but for arguments sake...thats a LOT of protein!

Even from your own admission your getting 500+ grams of protein a day. 2g per kilo is fine IMO. Just remember, protein can be converted to fat, just like carbs and fat if you are in caloric excess.

What are you trying to achieve?

yeah man 1 or 2 cans of tuna drain that water out first, add some v8 vegetable juice some ice and blend it up. its doesn't taste quite that bad. i seen some doods do it with water that shit is just foul i had it with some tap water few sips and instant retch and a two hour stomach ache. i have not tried it with OJ yet looks tempting though.
