Total cholesterol: 6.6 (target <4.0)

LDL cholesterol : 4.3 (<2.0)

HDL cholesterol : 2.06( > 1.0)

Triglycerides : 0.4 (target < 1.7)

HDL/cholesterol

ratio : 3.2 (target < 4.0)

I didn't get much time to talk to the nurse, only indication I got was its very high. She said she couldn't comment because despite a very high LDL, the HDL is above healthy as well as Trigeceriedes. Also the good to bad ratio is also in healthy region.

My diet is pretty much no processed carbs(bread, biscuits, sugar etc) and includes 4-6eggs a day 4/week, lot of meat(turkey, chicken, beef) whey, heaps of veges and fish etc etc. Routine: 5x5stronglifts.com.

Information on cholestrol is hugely conflicting, while your 'bad' cholesterol is relatively high it isnt very high and it balances out by your very high 'good' cholesterol. This is assuming the measurement is mmol, then other heart institutes have levels upto 4.0 as acceptable.

More and more often it appears there is very little link between cholesterol and heart diseases, the link points to inflammation. Dietary cholestrol effects got busted a long time ago yet often doctors will still recommend avoiding foods such as eggs, my father was very recently given a pamphlet advising limiting eggs as well as a load of other bollocks.

What does this mean for you? You say you are eating well and excersizing, well what else could you do really, take 10g of fish oil a day and be on your merry way.

I am no doctor so consider the above but do your own research.

Yes other than the mentioned intake of eggs my diet is very good. And I do take fish oil every day where I don't eat much fish.

Exercising I used to do a lot of cardio when I was trying to lower bf but now not much of it coz trying to gain some weight, as I'm 5.6' and 70kg so kinda skinny fat.

Your LDL isn't that super high I'd be worried about it. I read an interesting article, link posted on this site somewhere, re LDL. As you may or may not know LDL comes in many different forms. Some researchers are now saying it is the type of LDL one has rather than LDL as a total count. Your typical current cholesterol assay only tests LDL totals. You might find it's the better form of LDL that makes up your count.

I think its all about sat fat intake. This can be offset by good fats such as monounsaturated oils, omega-3 etc... If I've eaten heaps of sat fat in a day then I double does on my fish oil. I usually take one a day at the mo.

My mother is suppose to be on statins and blood thinners but instead she is taking fish oil and resveratrol; anyhow her blood pressure is down and chol is good since she started taking them reg. The Dr's think its their prescription and want to issue more but she had to bum them out. HAHA.

I'd only worry if LDL was high and HDL low, an indication of an actual problem.

HDL particles are thought to transport cholesterol back to the liver for excretion or to other tissues that use cholesterol to synthesize hormones in a process known as reverse cholesterol transport (RCT). Having large numbers of large HDL particles correlates with better health outcomes.
