Gold Coast Cops on Steroids

Recommended Posts

Steroid use by Police officers a big problem on Australia's Gold Coast

A senior lawyer, who asked not to be named, claimed human growth hormones and steroid use was prolific among some Gold Coast officers.

"You have these young men who are super fit. Some of them are using the drugs in the gym and supplying them," he claimed

Human growth hormone abuse is fuelled by a culture of "super masculinity" and the need for some young cops to "beef up" their bodies to protect them from the increasing threat of physical violence on the beat, it is claimed.

Gaven MP Alexander Douglas, a GP who has previously encountered steroid use when working in prisons, said the illegal use of the drug led to violent outbursts and irrational thinking.

"Steroids are being used by younger men and women, strangely enough, to make themselves look beautiful," Dr Douglas said.

"From the use of Botox and amount of surgery going on, people are body obsessed. There is a culture of this super masculinity. But I think some of it (for police officers) is driven by legitimate concerns. On the Gold Coast, policing is a lot different to Brisbane. People will have a go at them."

Dr Douglas, who has treated some Gold Coast officers for injuries, said police were working in a tough physical environment.

I read a similar article a few years ago about firefighters in Arizona I think, there findings were that it was a legitiamte use, afterall if your stuck in a burning building, you want the fire fighter to be able to knock the door down with the axe as fast as possible and you don't care how they do it.

(nearly said how he does it.....but then remembered 90's Pro Sandy Riddell was a firefighter too)

Is that 'cause they're taking the wrong dose/too much? Is he refering to prisoners or the guards?

Anyway, can't say I blame the coppers for taking them. I'd want to be as strong as I could in that job too.

Maybe if police and millitary standards focused less on endurance and more on strength this wouldnt be happening.

If you were in a war and someone needed to drag your ass out who would you rather drag you out, a soldier that can run a marathon or a squat 2xbw?

its very interesting that you put this article up cause ive jst gotten back from working on the gold coast (working in a bodybuilding store) and the amount of gear from deca to GH that is on the coast is amazing! once or twice walking back from a gym i got stopped by people either wanting gear or askin whether i wanted to buy some, it was ridiculous!!! we had a few cops who came into the store as well and lets jst say they were definitely gettin a lil help from our favourite hormone... :pfft:

Wouldn't want someone abusing roids and handling a weapon though, or having the law behind their decisions.

Is a guy on steroids less in control of himself and his surrounding than a natural cop chemo???

I think if our own police focused on training more than the drinking and womanizing they do(the cops I know anyway) they wouldnt need any extra assistance but for those that train hard and wanna be all they can be good on them

Love that line "a culture of super masculinity" :pfft: yeah buddy \:D/

Other than some officers in NZ being tall im yet to meet one that i am intimidated by, to be honest, our force could do with some big frontline officers. Like on COPS in vegas, all those dudes look like they could knock anyone the F* out.

Most of them have bulletproof vests on so they do look bigger, due to cost saving measures, we should issue our cops those Incredible Hulk inflateable costumes that you put under your t shirt when I was a kid to create the illusion.
