Competing in Powerlifting 2010?

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

Im in Dunedin at uni and have been looking at the NZPF calendar for 2010 and have noticed there are a few 3 lift comps in the otago/canterbury region. I was wondering if to compete in the South Island Powerlifting Champs in June I would need to compete before that to try qualify for it? and then if I do well enough in that would it qulaify me for the NZ champs in August?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Bro,

To compete at Nationals you must join your local association, do a novice/qualifier (basically just posting a total), then do the regional comp and hit the qualifying totals for the Nationals (see NZPF site for classifications). There maybe some period you are required to be on Drug Testing before you can do the Nats (maybe 6 months from memory, again check NZPF site or ask Old Bull).

Nationals/Regionals will require a soft suit at minimum (as tee shirts & shorts are okay for Novice meets but not competative comps).

Hope that helps?

Nate

You will need to be registered with the NZPF 3 months prior to Nationals to meet the drug testing requirements.

The Otago champs are on 24 April, if you lift there then you will be ok to lift at the SI's. You can contact Rennie of Marie Soffe about joining the Otago association: http://www.sportsground.co.nz/ClubSite.asp?SiteID=8541&PageTypeID=19&PageID=28110

or send me an email if you need any other info: esbarbell@gmail.com

Here is a link the NZPF qualification info:

Hopefully I will see you at the Souths in June :pfft:
