Thoughts on "Joint Compounds"

Just wanted to get a feel for what products people have tried to use for maintaining / improving joint health, as well as any anecdotal results from users. If anyone has any research articles to share they would be much appreciated.

It seems logical to try these things once the damage is done (or symptoms begin to appear), however I wonder if a proactive approach has benefits. Personally I have been pretty fortunate with injuries and have managed to train and compete for around 20 years now. However I have noticed tendonitis starting to impact in my knees, although I could still squat 600lbs and pull trucks once warm, I could barely squat bodyweight to depth while cold!

Some time ago I added a glucosamine/chondroitin product to the mix, but to be fair I didn't notice much improvement (although to be fair I was still training heavy). Fish oils however did seem to help, at one stage I went off these for a few weeks and I remember passing comment to a friend how much my joints were aching, they asked if I was still using fish oils. In short I went back on the fish oils and inflammation seemed to settle to a residual level.

Anyone else had experiences with these or other joint type products?

Nate

I've tried the Balance Glucosamine and Chondroitin, and liked it. I'm pretty sure I can attribute the relief of various niggling joint issues to it. I like the fact it's a powder, and not little pills or capsules - makes me feel like I'm getting a better "bulk" deal. :D

I've just starting taking it again, so we'll see if it can fix a clicky elbow.
