Good Physio in Christchurch

Nik Antunovich

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I am looking for a decent physio in the Christchurch area. Someone who knows there stuff. I've had many physios in Auckland but only one or two really fit the bill. I am sure it's much the same down here. Is there a sport institute here that has it's own physio clinic or similar?

Bust my shoulder up and looking at a little rehab to speed recovery on the right track. So a specialist with shoulders would be good but I am getting fussy...

Any suggestions?

Doug Claridge from Russley Physiotherapy did wonders on my knee after i ruptured a ligament. Fast and thorough recovery. Not sure what he is like with shoulders, but I believe he is the physio for Burnside rugby so I'm sure he's done his share.

When I was in chch the ballet school I was at sent us all to Sportsmed.

They were pretty onto it. Cant member the name of the street but if your in the middle of town you walk upwards straight for awhile and then left....

Yeah I agree sportsmed is fantastic, I went there with a shoulder problem and got it fixed right away. If you can, get an appt with Deb Robinson coz she's the best there. Redwood physio isn't bad either but you'd best get an appt with Barry coz otherwise your rehab will take ages.

So I ended up going local and found out I should have probably stuck to recommendations . Miss diagnosis I am fairly certain so off to get it looked at by someone else. I was told pinched supraspinatus only but I am feeling pain and a good stretch around the front of my clavicle where my anterior deltoid would be attached; I feel like it is both of these things.

Was in the gym with some light weights on Tuesday; what a load of shit day that was. Felt like an old man for sure. At least I can still squat. With a minor injury I felt I should be on top of it by now; it's 2 weeks on Sunday.

Man sounds like exactly like my situation 2yrs ago, went to 3 physios and when I went to both the people I mentioned before, and with two cortisone shots I was back in the gym. I've messed up both shoulders before so I know what its like to not be able to lift for ages but yeah hope all goes well on the treatment side and wish you a speedy recovery mate

Went to Sportsmed yesterday, had an appointment with a guy Jeremy. He's on to it. Pinpointed the problem right away and then tests confirmed. So a bust AC joint rather than the supraspinatus pinch/tear that I was diagnosed with earlier by someone at another clinic.

Goes to show that if you're not sure go and get a second opinion. Sad news is because of this recovery is going to be longer than origninally thought. So, no pushing/pulling for at least 2 more weeks and perhaps 4. Pissed!

At least I can squat!

Thanks to Peachy and Rookie. Sweet!

Good to hear you're all sorted mate.

An a/c haha exactly the same as me, once you're back in it 100% add scapular retractions, internal/external rotations and scapular push ups as a part of your usual routine- they work a treat for a/c probs.

Yay glad you getting it sorted finally Nik!

I reckon you can always tell a good physio by the way they explain stuff.

The gud ones spend more time actually analyzing your injury and the pain and movement tests and tell you stuff that you didn't tell them but then it all makes sense. The bad ones just start treating you straight away..

Oooh, AC. I did mine in my final year of high school (seperation from the shoulder), took a while to recover (8-10 weeks I think?), but in saying that, I probably didn't manage the injury as well as I should've/could've.

Good luck with the recovery mate :)

I've been off for 2 weeks and am at least another 2 off before I should be lifting anything heavy.

The annoying thing is I train my shoulder joints so as to stop having issues! I was already doing internal and external rotations with other joint stabiliser exercises. I guess it could have been a more severe tear if I didn't do these already so I think I may have seen some benefit.

My legs probably could do with a focus. It's a body area that is to often neglected by most.

Thanks for the support guys and gals!

 you should start doing some isolation leg work while you recover from your injury. i.e do quads one day, hammies another, then calves. good way of focusing on the legs while letting your injury recover
