Nope. Used to, but not for about 4 years now. Gave up in 2000 for a couple of years, started up again for a while when I went through a bit of a bad patch. Then was about to stop again in 2003 but met hubby who smoked, so took a while to stop properly again - every time I went to the UK to visit him or he came to me, I'd start up again because I could bear to be around him if he'd been smoking and I hadn't- the stench was vile and the only way to cope was to smoke myself. So in the end it was a dealbreaker as far as our relationship went - I didn't want to smoke and couldn't bear to be around a smoker, so we both stopped.

Vile disgusting habit, and I can't believe how much I must've stank when I was a smoker. A colleague smokes and I have to spray perfume around when he's been out for one, it's so disgusting :pfft:

I used to smoke, drink, party with women all night and even do drugs. Then i discovered bodybuilding. Now i dont touch any of it. Just one woman. I cant understand why anyone would want to smoke if they are training seriously. Just cutting themselves short. I think its a great idea raising the taxes

That's awesome Chillicat! I smoked for 2 years... Was trying to be cool in highschool I guess... What stopped me was, when I joined the gym and saw gains I thought ... "Hey if I stop, maybe ill see more gains!"

meh.. I so some 'more' gains but not as much as I wanted hahaha. That's awesome.. Hope they do ban it. Such a waste of money, doesn't do anything for you but kills you slowly. Damn cancer sticks lol.

same had a hard patch. booze, girls, drugs, smoking and all the stuff that goes along with it. Now im clean sober and lift weight. All those additives esspecilly smoking just slow ya down. Your need all the cardio power you can get with bodybuilding and with life alike.

kills you slowly

Yeah, that's true. And that was part of it for me - slow motion suicide is another phrase for it. I was pretty down on myself back in my younger days and smoking was just another thing I threw at my body because I really just didn't care if it killed me.

Care a lot more now, especially having lost a friend last year to lung cancer - she was a lifelong non-smoker and athlete (long distance runner). There was me smoking myself stupid for years, and then cancer gets the person who never did a thing wrong healthwise. How does that work?

found out last year that if you want to train, and want to be able to put in 110%, ya cant do it coughing and spluttering.

gave it the boot. bowt 4 or 5 months smoke free after about 12 or so years of smoking.

feel great, skins better, smell is back...and most of all, training has improved tenfold.

actually able to breath now! :D

Ban that shit in public! It's fucken toxic, disgusting and I resent people trying to kill me with their poisonous secondhand smoke and the equally toxic smoke from the smouldering cigarette. You wouldn't purposely breathe carbon monoxide from a car exhaust unless you're trying to top yourself in the garage! :pfft:

Wish I could cough tuberculosis in smokers faces. There isn't a morning I walk to work when I don't strike at least one. Smoking = motherfucking fail

quit over 2 years ago now \:D/ after 20 years of heavy smoking.

I keep asking myself recently, how much better would I be if I'd used those 20 years and xx thousand bux for training, or motor racing or something, anything other than smoking????

I smoked for 14 years, finally stopped totally 2 years ago after trying to stop several times. My husband smoked too, but only because I smoked in the first place and I would stop and he would carry on smoking, then he would stop and I would keep smoking. In the end we both had to quit as it was too difficult to quit separately.

I totally enjoyed smoking! Although it's very bad for you and everybody else! I will never go back again it's gross and a waste of time/money/life.

I have an extra 4 hours a day up my sleeve from not smoking that's how much time I wasted each day smoking! :smoke:

Haha damn! Nice history from you guys!

Rose, no matter what you show people what's in the cigerette, they won't care lol.

Anyone here hang around with people who smoke?? I got this friend who I enjoy spending time with but he always has to smoke... And I start to get wheezy by the time I get home from the 2nd hand smoking... Pretty sad too because I always make excuses not to hang out now LOL.

but people who think smoking should be banned are freedom-hating little girls.

LOL. For me, it depends how much the freedom to smoke in public impacts on others. And it has a rather large impact.

Personally, I'd rather inhale a whiffy protein fart in a poorly ventilated gym.

Banning smoking in pubilc is silly, you might as well ban driving in public, I'm sure diesel and petrol fumes are far worse for you, not to mention the fact that a car produces more fumes in an hour than most smokers will in a lifetime.

Plus, to get political, I hate the way these things are slippery slopes. You get the public to agree on things like this, then you can get them to agree on other things. I mean, who needs to see women breastfeeding their kids in public? How indecent!

People will agree to things like this because they sound like good ideas. Increase tax on alcohol? Curb binge drinking! It doesn't quite work.

I can see your point but people intentionally harm themselves by smoking cigerettes. Atleast cars do something and get you to places faster and such. What does smoking do? Any benefit other than "It's mean as when you're having a drink bro." ? (Which isn't a benefit ofcourse lol)

Just refuse to fund any of their healthcare then. I don't care if tobacco is taxed or not. There's no way the tax covers the costs of the effects of smoking, immediate or future.

Of your examples, the quite obvious difference between say, driving in public and smoking in public, transport is often a necessity. Yes banning driving would be lovely. Everyone could work from home or cycle to work or be a self-sufficient hippy on their own land. Smoking, as Loochi noted, what benefits are there?

Smoke at home, I don't care. Exhale smoke on me, I do care. Humans are vile and disgusting enough as it is. It's not like we need further assistance in this area. Let them die! LOL.
