I need motivation

welcome!!

I find motivation comes from results - so keep at it!

Gaining weight is simply a matter of energyin>energy out while pushing the biggest weights you can. If you're getting enough protein from natural foods you won't need shakes but that is really hard sometimes.

What is the reason you ask as shakes are a really easy and relatively inexpensive way of getting enough protein into the diet?

What's your current diet look like?

Gidday Mate.

If your looking for motovation it can only really come from within. Try to keep your workouts interesting, mix up your routine once in a while. Haveing a log book would be one of the biggest ones. Just take it with you every workout, record what you do, and next time you go back, try to beat your previous effort, that way its like your in a competition with yourself. Youll also likely be motovated by results, so getting a good diet plan and workout regime are paramount.

Im not saying this is you but i often see people go into the gym, do a few bicep curls, maybe some pushdowns, bench press perhaps, and then leave. Then i see them again the next day and they do those same exercises and wonder why they dont get bigger.

Ask some of the more experienced guys in here to write you up a diet and workout regime.

Your question "how do you keep on top of a weight gain diet without using protein shakes? " is simple, eat real protein, you dont need protein shakes if you are getting enough protein from meats and poulty.

Dont be afraid to ask around. Plenty of people here will be more than happy to help you out.

Hi Kinlon.

Everything they've already said ^ :D

Plus, sometimes it helps (especially when you're just starting) if you've got a really clear mental picture of what you want your physique to look like. It doesn't matter what the goal is, or where you find it - magazines, bodybuilding competitions, or even just someone you see at the gym and think, "Damn, that's a good physique!"

Then when you're feeling in need of motivation, think of the picture, grit your teeth, and tell yourself you have to do this to get the physique you want. Once you've been training a bit, and seeing good progress, you'll automatically associate "training = one step closer to the goal" and you won't have to consciously dangle this carrot each time. :)

Thanks team. I bought some whey protein a few weeks ago. I will start using it from next week and make it a regular thing in my diet. The diet that I will likely follow each day is 5 or 6 eggs, tuna sandwhich, fruit, veges, lots of water, sometimes chicken, sometimes a protein shake and 'everyday food'. I am 171cm height and 71kg weight. I am aiming for 80kg in the long term. The physique I want is that of rugby league players especially Mat Utai. Yeah I will get a notebook and monitor my progress. I am going to Les Mills for free because I was a mystery shopper there and my employer gave me free 3 months membership to monitor their service, facilities etc.

How many eggs per day is max?

How many egg yellows per day is max?

When doing squats how do I prevent hurting my back? Do I use one of those fat straps and put it around my waist?

When lifting weights, is slower better?

Also, do you guys and girls attract more of the opposite sex since having a better body? Do you notice more people looking at you? Does your new figure help in finding better jobs? Do people respect you more?

I would love to hear your responses.

Have a good day!

Egg whites, as much as you like, within reason. Try to get your protein from a range of sources, and don't live solely on eggs.
How many egg yellows per day is max?
Hmmm. The yolks are quite fatty, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially if you're trying to bulk up. The majority of the fat in a yolk is unsaturated (good fat), but still I wouldn't do more than 5-6 a day, I think. Others may be better qualified to answer this.

Some people swear by their belts, but wearing a belt is still no guarantee you won't get injured. I can't decide whether I like them or not. For a beginner, you shouldn't be going heavy enough to need a belt anyway - not until you've got perfect form absolutely ingrained first, which takes time.
When lifting weights, is slower better?
Generally speaking (and again, especially for a beginner) - yes. Go slow, concentrate on your form, and really try to feel the muscle working (this means you have to know which exercise is supposed to work which muscle, of course).

*sigh* If only...

Seriously though, it does help boost self-esteem, so probably the above outcomes would be a trickle-down effect. I live in hope. :P

Personally my answer would be no to all of the above.

No to all here too

More people looking at you? Sure

Does it help in finding better jobs? No, most people don't like BB'ers

Do people respect you more? Some do, some don't. Some pity you, some envy you..

  • 1 month later...

It's interesting how people view bigger more muscular guys - I have found that when I was at my biggest altered state people would give me a very wide berth and I think tended to expect a certain type of personality from me that they would expect a big guy to have. Strangely enough I was a very laid back, quiet and approachable person but people just see what they want to see I guess. It was only in pubs etc when people who had had a few would either make physical challenges or off hand remarks (which either way I just ignore usually) or women and old men in particular who would come up to me and hug me and say I was like a big teddybear (I know - sick isn't - all that training and I could only attract the aged or the aged and pissed hehe).

Have a good day!

There is no max on eggs.

How ever, the yellows have fat, and i believe saturated fat.

So depending on the amount of fat required in your diet, you can consume yellows accordingly.

Learn good technique from an experienced lifter on the squat.

Take your time, perfect your form and never sacrifice your form for squat.

If you do very heavy squatting in low reps, every few weeks, take a little break.

A belt is NOT required until you get to really heavy weights in single rep zones like powerlifters. Instead learn back and abs strenghtening excercises.

This replaces the belt iself.

Slower need not be better, but emphasis on control. Control good form and that should be the right speed.

Yes do get mroe attention from the opposite sex. Also get more attention from the same sex.. mostly mates i havent seen in a while going.. dude uve gone big !

Doesnt help in jobs.. most ppl seem to think big guys r just slow and dumb.
